Hi my pup is 12 weeks. I am traininig him to a lead and he's doing great. He plays well with my other dogs and they are all bonding and finding there places.

How far should I walk him, he gets tired after about 300metres, is this normal, I've just walked over the road with him to run an errand and had to carry him back, it was about 500m, I carried him the last of the way over too, he's panned out beside me now.

He's eating well, gaining weight but has a little runny eyes and nose, could he be coming down with something.

All my dogs are up to date with vaccines, worm/flea doses including him.

Any ideas, am I pushing him too far:confused: Ah god, my jrt who I was also walking has just curled up in a ball beside him all concerned looking, now i'm feeling really bad for him.

5 mins per month of age is the rule of thumb so 15 mins for your baba. I bet it was like carrying a bag of potatoes lol!! :pac:

Your pup may be suffering some after effects of the vaccs, keep a close eye on him for a few weeks but it's normal enough for them to be a bit out of sorts.

i dont know if this is a thing but my folks older boxer suffers from "straight leg", i think it's basically arthritis in her back knee joints, it makes her less mobile and they suspect they may have over walked her when she was still a young pup (8-12 weeks) and her bones were still forming. i dont know if this is the case or something boxer specific

To be honest, at 12 weeks i wouldnt be doing any walking as such, more socialising and playing etc but not forced walks.
Have a little wander down the road, to get used to traffic, noises, people etc but no need to go on proper walks for another while yet, its too much for a 3 month old pup.

Gud4u, your pup will get a lot of his exercise playing around with the other dogs throughout the day so as Andreac has said a walk would not really be needed for him.

If you have the option to drive to your local park i'd do that and then let the dogs off to play there, you will notice the pup will just lie down and not want to play much more when he is tired. I am lucky in that there is a large field right at the front of my house, so when I got both of my dogs I used that an awful lot for their exercise.
