Looking for a decent build for 700-750 euro including a monitor, but mouse, keyboard and speakers can be left out.

Will be used mostly for gaming but probably not any really demanding games like Battlefield or SWTOR. I'm hoping for an i7 processor if possible for such a budget, 8 gigs of RAM and a decent GPU with at least a gig of RAM. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Cheers, Conway Twitty.

    Have a look at this:

    Total build cost: €723.90 + €30 shipping
    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9 €32.63
    Intel Core i5-2500K Box, LGA1155 €188.78
    ASRock Z68 Pro3 Gen3, Sockel 1155, ATX €86.69
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W €42.19
    Powercolor HD6870 1024MB Dual-DVI/HD1M2I5 €145.74
    BenQ G2225HD €100.98
LiteOn iHAS324-32 schwarz SATA Retail €21.13
    Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB, SATA II (HD502HJ) €72.00
    Thermalright HR-02 Macho €33.76

What sort of games are you going to be playing? This is maxing out the budget but some things could be changed to lower it, or add items more suitable.
You don't need an i7, unless you're doing a lot of video encoding, in gaming they're virtually the same.
If you aren't playing very demanding games, or you have some spare hard drives lying around, you could pick up a 64gb SSD.

Oh by the way, do you need windows in that budget?

Oh, sorry yes Windows 7 Home Premium should be included. Thanks for the quick reply, I'll take a look through the suggested build and see how it suits me.

The whole i7 idea came from a few lads from college, but they tend to have elitist attitudes and would tell me an i5 isn't sufficient.

Those college lads think its better because 7 is bigger than 5 :pac:
This build is slightly weaker, but has an SSD which will load windows in a few seconds. It's not very large but you should be able to stick on a game or two if you're economical with the space.

    Total build cost: €698.60 + €30 shipping
    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9 €32.63
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W €42.19
    BenQ G2225HD €100.98
LiteOn iHAS324-32 schwarz SATA Retail €21.13
    Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB, SATA II (HD502HJ) €72.00
    Intel Core i5-2400 Box, LGA1155 €166.07
    ASUS P8H61-M LE/USB3 REV 3.0, Sockel 1155, mATX, DDR3 €56.90
    Crucial M4 64GB SSD 6,4cm (2,5") €85.76
    Sapphire HD 6850 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express €120.9

And you can pick up windows 7 from software4students.ie as you are a student. And yes, I know hat says upgrade edition but you can just do a clean install, all you have to do is either:
    (a) change a setting in the registry (its mediabootinstall from 1 to 0, takes like 10 seconds)
    (b) Install it twice.

And again, the sort of games you're playing would help. The 6850 maxes out stuff like Cod4 easily.

    But struggles on Crysis.

The only game I know for definite I would play is Word of Warcraft, which is less demanding than both of the games you used as an example, so it should be more than good enough in that respect. And I was unaware of that Software4students site ...rather convenient I must say.

Anyway, thanks again and this build seems pretty good although I might tweak it a little if I can invest a bit more money. What would you recommend upgrading if an extra 30-50 quid is available?

Which build? The first or second one? If it's the first I'd put in an SSD, and if it's the second I'd up the graphics card to a 6870. OR I'd up the CPU to a 2500k and the Mobo to the Asrock Z68 gen3, which is more expensive but probably last you longer, as its much easier to replace a GPU than a CPU and MOBO and possibly RAM.

EDIT: Actually I wouldn't bother getting a 6870 if its just WOW, the 6850 gets 80+ fps on 1200p. What I'd do is maybe get a bigger monitor, maybe a 24".

It'll likely be the second build I'll go for, and get a better monitor as you said. I'm fairly happy with those suggestions so yeah, thanks a million for your help.

    Take care
