Not the prettiest or most impressive looking ferry afloat, but:
The ship has already achieved 51.5 knots (95.4 km/h) during loaded sea trials, and the lightship speed will be even higher.

she is the fastest (and named after the current pope)

Worked a couple of days on one of the original Ramform's when alongside, years ago.
Odd vessels, seem almost as wide as they are long. Remember one of the officers saying something like, "unlike most vessels nowadays, they're built for only one purpose....pull s**t loads of streamers"

Surprised that they Didn't turn the bow more up against the weather to avoid the heavy rolling.it sure would have made it easier for the chopper.

The helicopters generally request you put the wind on the shoulder, not sure in what sense it assists, but it apparently makes it easier for them

Generates more lift for the aircraft using less power & fuel.
The aircraft has enough power to abort the operation in case of engine failure etc

If I remember correctly, it's 20 degrees on the stardboard shoulder or so. This allows the helicopter to be directly into the wind, the pilot (who sits on the stbd side) with a clear view of the deck and the ships accommodation to be angled away from the tail of the chopper. It's why often helipads and winch zones are on the port side of ships also.

In June 2010 Allseas awarded the contract for building Pieter Schelte, its 382 m long, 124 m wide dynamically positioned (DP) platform installation / decommissioning and pipelay vessel, to the South Korean shipyard Daewoo.

Long-lead items such as the power generation equipment, thrusters and DP system were ordered in 2007.
In 2008 the high-tensile steel for the jacket and topsides lift systems was ordered, and the detail design of the hull was completed in May 2010.
Equipment for the lift systems and pipelay system were ordered in 2011, continuing into 2012.

When built, Pieter Schelte will have a topsides lift capacity of 48,000 t and a jacket lift capacity of 25,000 t.
Her pipelay tension capacity will be 2,000 t, doubling the capacity of Allseas’ Solitaire and thereby surpassing her as the world’s largest pipelay vessel.

    An amateur!:)
He went through the ‘lubbers’ hole’ (at 1.29) instead of going aloft in a seamanlike way, via the futtock shrouds! Going up those shrouds was like going up a ladder, rat-boards until he reached the lower topsails, after which everything was nicely parcelled and served. (Shows what cheap/free labour can achieve in a naval service!) Nor did he lay out along a yard, or shin up  to the cap! (now that would have impressed me!)

11 and 1 leave rotation, and you don't get to shore unless vessel goes to Bahrain or UAE for drydocking, Saudi TV , Saudi Arabia.

Sounds like the Al Başrah Oil Terminal (six hours to tie up alongside).

Although the terminal staff weren't in any rush to go home anyway...

Irish shipping lost a bloke back in the fifties/sixties up there waiting to unload grain to heat stroke

Mind you we haven't touched Port Said.

Although when you mention the gulag of the industry, Sakhalin, EasternSiberia came to mind first. Be happy not to see it again, but never say never.
