From this photo, I can see no chains for the trailers. :confused

    ?width=605

It's a dirty, dangerous and tough work for the sailors on the 'chain gang'. It used to be that IF chained no matter the weather (Stena only in winter), and double chains if bad weather forecast. Cars have no securing point built in for lashing chains and generally don't move. I'd be interested to see more photos to confirm if chains were used before the damage was done?

That picture looks like it an unacomponied trailer. All operators lash unacomponied trailers irrespective of weather, though the number of lashings is weather dependent. The artics, rigids etc lashings will be weather dependent on most ferris.

I'd question why the trailers weren't block stowed.

Well then things have changed, used to be all trailers, all weathers with IF.

I don't know about IF specifically, my point was just that a few of the short sea operators (obviously Epsilon isn't short sea) will only lash artics etc if the weather is to exceed certain parameters. Unaccomponied trailers, what appears to be in the picture, will (or should) always be lashed however the number of lashings will be dependent upon the weather
