If public hospital closes - redundancy or relocation?

Hi, A friend of mine works in a public hospital that is rumoured may close (there is another much larger one within a few miles of it). What happened when hospitals closed in the past? Are the staff all relocated to other hospitals in the region/province or are they offered redundancy? Thanks,

I would imagine that the larger hospital is short staffed as it is so relocation.
