just finished reading "Forward the Rifles" by Captain David Campbell MC. Charting his WW1 career from a student at Trinity (and member of the OTC), his commission as a Temp 2nd Lt with the 6th Royal Irish Rifles, Gallipoli, evacuation to England by ship to Highclere Castle (aka Downton Abbey), Salonica and then post war return to Trinity and the OTC.

Quite interesting. A bit lacking in detail in places but some good material throughout the book.

Campbell went on to be involved in building the runways at Shannon and Baldonnel (which is where my interest in him started) but sadly no details about his work on these.

Hi Johnny, do any other ranks get a mention in this book?

unfortunately, very little by way of names. Where there are, they tend to be officers. As an overview book it's quite good but not suitable if looking for individuals.
