Volunteering in Peru Summer 2012

Hi i'm thinking of volunteering in Cusco in Peru this Summer with Aldea Yanapay - a kind of afterschool facility for children(http://yanapay.facipub.com).

My plan is to volunteer for 2 months and then spend 4-5 weeks travelling around Bolivia, Chile and maybe a stop in Buenos Aires in Argentina on the way home.

I'm a bit nervous as i'd be going solo and i've never volunteered before or travelled on my own. Does anybody have any experience in doing anything like this? Or with Aldea Yanapay or another volunteer organisation in Peru or south america? I've heard good things about Pisco Sin Fronteras. It would be great to get involved with an irish group volunteering abroad but I can't afford to pay large sums for volunteering programmes.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

My boyfriend and I travelled South America last year, we spent a month in a wild life refuge in Bolivia it was amazing, hard work but so rewarding. I would definitely recommend trying it for a few weeks anyway

I can say nothing about volunteering. But I have been to Peru and it is a fantastic country. Cuszo is a beautiful city (bring plenty of sun tan cream) and enjoy the surrounding area on your time off.

I'm really jealous of you - I wish I done that when I was there. Peruvian people are fantastic, so polite, friendly and I still think about them two years after I returned from the country.

Im thinking of volunteering in South America in January 2013 and was also looking at Peru. I'll be going by myself and its also my first time travelling alone.. Scary! I found a website (http://www.volunteersouthamerica.net/) that seems to list loads of volunteering options. The wildlife refuge in Bolivia sounds great, I would love to try a few different volunteering options. I'd be really interested to hear how you get on, and from anyone else who has done it before!
