I am currently with Bord Gais for ESB, paying 15.79 before VAT for our units. We are on Rural Rates. I was wondering is there any advantage in switching to Electric Ireland for our electricity. We already pay Direct Debit and I would be happy to have paperless billing.

    Hi Ccazza :)

We have Price Plans for new customers that offer up to:

    11% for electricity only or
Up to 14% on electricity and 6% on gas or
Up to 6% on electricity and 14% on gas

Electricity discounts are off the Electric Ireland standard unit rates; gas discounts are off the Bord Gais standard unit rates.

Full details of our current price plans, unit pricing, charges, and terms and conditions are on the following link on our website.

Pricing can change, but % discounts will remain for the term of the Price Plan, once applied to an account, and once terms and conditions are met.

Our current standard unit pricing is:

    24 hour meters: 16.19 cent
    Day/Night meters: 17.29 cents/8.55 cents

These prices do not include VAT.

If you decide to switch your account(s) to Electric Ireland, we would require the following information (where applicable):

    1. The account number if you had an Electric Ireland/ESB account before
    2. Full contact details, bank account details, date of birth (for data protection/security)
    3. MPRN (meter point reference number) - found on a previous electricity bill
    4. A current electricity meter-reading
    5. GPRN (gas point reference number) - found on a previous gas bill
    6. A current gas meter-reading

Once we have your information and instruction to proceed, we take care of the switch process. You do not have to contact your current energy supplier.

    All the best,
    Una

How can you achieve the maximum discount of 11% and how much would you be paying per unit excl vat with this discount? Thanks.

    Hi ccazza,

To be eligible for the maximum electricity-only discount of 11%, you would need to be signed up to online billing (direct debit is mandatory).

The discounted electricity unit price for customers on both direct debit and online billing is 16.35c, excl. VAT.

If you have both gas and electricity with Electric Ireland, you can get up to 14% off electricity or gas - see here for details. That would bring the above figure down to 15.8c.

If you were to choose the full 14% discount on gas (as opposed to the standard 6%) that would bring the gas unit price down to 4.672c (from 5.432c). You can find all our rates here.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    David.
