I got a Galaxy S3 on Wednesday after having an iPhone for 3 years, but I have been very disappointed with the S3 Battery so far. I

I always plug my phone into charge at night and when i had the iPhone 4 it always lasted the day even with Wifi and bluetooth left on and a fair bit of usage. Not so with the S3, If i leave wifi and bluetooth it bearly lasts half the day.

Even today, I took it off the charger at 9am, left bluetooth off, Wifi on, used it for about 20 mins of calls and 30 mins of web browsing during the morning, no GPS, screen brightness on auto and switched off for most of the time and all other apps closed and memory cleared. By 1pm it was down to 55%. I hope this improves over the coming days or even though it is a nice phone it is no use to me if it cannot last the day.

Also i had sync turned off but received no gmail, how do you setup proper push email on Android like you can on the iPhone?

I took my phone off charge at 8 this morning. I've had about twice your usage and still have 64% charge.

S3 with Meteor through Carphone Warehouse is unlocked but there is a free app available that unlocks the S3 and it works well from what I know

Got mine on the 12th and the replacement 8 days later, both unlocked, they also gave me the option to switch from white to pebble blue which I did, looking back I think the white looks better but it matters not at this stage

Just to note, both phones were unbranded except that the first one had meteor.ie as its home page, it seems the new one goes direct to Samsung, ill confirm that later, one way or the other if its customer satisfaction you want, Carphone Warehouse id the way to go, hardware problem within 1st 30 days and they will replace, once not modified

What phone do you presently have

Left mine on charge all night, been using it at normal levels with data turned off, so browsing over wifi only. Had a 15min call earlier but havent done anything excessive like gaming or steaming video. Very normal usage.

After 2.5 hours I'm down to 82% battery left. Lets say at best I'd get 3 hours out of 20%, that works out at 15hours out of 100%

I know I've only charged it a couple of times and it will not be at full capacity yet, but it seems to be pretty poor tbh

What network are you on? Do you have a good signal generally?

I was on 3Ireland and the constant switching between 3G and 2G would drain the battery within a few hours (that was with an S2). Had to manually switch between 2G/3G and finally got it down to a fine art. Was able to get a good 2 days out of the battery in the end.

Recently switched to eMobile and picked up an S3. I've just got 2 days 15hrs out of it. Lots of usage and playing with the new apps/features. Very impressed. Long may it last.

    I'm with 3.

I have mobile data turned off in the notification centre toggles so I'm using wifi only for browsing at the moment.

I keep getting notices saying I've lost data roaming, even though I've disabled data roaming in the settings.

Any one have a problem when charging the phone. I went asleep listening to music last night and had it hooked up to charge . When I woke up it had only charged to 50% but the power lead was still in. This has happened twice.

By the way is there any good cover to get? I want a are through silicon one. The screen feels too nice to put on a protector though.

I have connected my S3 to 4 different wifi networks, and without fail, they stop working. They can connect to the network, but they cannot get an IP address. The S3 won't allow me to save a static IP either.

When you're in the wifi config long press the network name and select modify config, then advanced. That should let you set static ip

Tip for anyone wanting better in call sound:

From diler keypad hit menu-call settings- additional settings- (it will load up) from there look for 'in-call sound' and 'Personalised EQ '

The 'Personalised EQ ' will give you a full hearing test! (you need good headphones!) and adjust the sound according to your needs!
lol even shows you a graph of your results at the end.

in reply to my own question, yes they have it in blue finally, but to my surprise when i got it it was locked to meteor! very unusual for cpw, atleast from my own experience with them. time to root it i guess

    Still on battery issues.....

Got 17.5 hours from last full charge, with the screen on for 4.5 hours of that. Not great considering 8 hours of that was overnight with no use.

Anyhow, charging again as I type, but I found a setting that may have been contributing to the issue.

S voice was working in the background waiting for me to say a command to wake it up. Didn't realise it was set up that way. I turned it off and have it set to come on with a double home button tap only now.

    Hopefully this will help.

The data roaming you've disabled is international roaming.

Nice one! I just changed the "In-call sound EQ" from "Off" to "Clear sound". Much clearer now, it was a bit muffled before.

    HOW DO I DO THIS

    Root.....

Real easy, give a few days for the battery to cycle, I left it run down completely before charging first time, it lasts a day

Open s voice, then open the settings menu. About half way down that menu, you'll see "wake up command", make sure that's turned off.

I can't seem to receive multimedia messages, is this a problem with vodafone or the phone?

I just get a bubble message with the message size which is always 29KB, the expiry date and a download button which does nothing when clicked.

Are there any browsers that let you put the address bar on the bottom of the screen? Bit awkward stretching across the big screen to enter url or search when using single handed.

Do both your networks support video calling?

    I don't think O2 support video calls.

Maybe your phone setup or your account. I have the sg3 on vodafone and it works fine. Have you tried a different sms app (I use go sms)

I just asked Tony on the Eircom/eMobile forum this morning and he confirmed it cost the same as a standard call (25c/minute at the mo). So I'm taking it that video calling is supported alright.

How do i create shortcuts for the people i ring and txt most frequently instead of having to go through contacts all the time? Could do it on the s2 but cant seem to find way to do it on s3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭god's toy

here's the message i keep getting

Yep when the GS2 came out loads of us had the same thing.
You just have to wait till kies is updated. (in my case it was a few updates before I could update the phone using kies)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,367 ✭✭✭fionny

here's the message i keep getting

Just plugged mine in and its fine,

When plugged in pull down the notification bar and make sure phone is connect via MTP and not Camera.

If that not it its possible your network has put some ****e custom stuff on it.

Click the Apps Icon on the home screen. Click Widgets (top menu).

Add the "Contact 1x1" widget by holding down and dropping onto your Home Screen. It'll then ask you to select the contact from your Contacts list.
