The Chargers have Jarret Johnson from the Ravens. I have a bad feeling about this, after seeing Antwan Barnes performances after leaving the Ravens for the Chargers.

If your Orton who you rather a shot at a training camp competition against McCoy/Gabbert or no hope against Romo. I'm trying to look at it from Ortons point of view not a certain teams point of view.

Also at this point i would have Orton over Gabbert to be fair.

Orton doesn't get to pick though. He could easily be left with a situation where he turns down the Cowboys and then no one comes up for him, or only does at the end and then offer him far less money. You know what you have with Orton, he'll never improve really and what you have is a very average QB. Gabbert might not even make that but considering the money they are paying him they have to at least give him a shoot.

The Jags are waiting with bated breath on Manning, if he goes to Denver Jacksonville will ambulance chase Tebow like they should have when he was available to draft. The Jags saw what they had with Gabbert last year and it wasn't something that showed much promise at all.

Gabbert likely will be forgotten about completely in that situation, and either way he's more likely than not to end up Jimmy Clausened.

Cowboys sign Brandon Carr to 5 year $50.1 million deal.

Guess while the rest of us experience the recession there is plenty to go around in the NFL with all these crazy contracts.

Good pick up for the Cowboys. Carr is potentially a very good corner. Showed flashes of potential last season.

As for the contract, seems to be the going rate for corners in free agency

Another mental one now. DeSean Jackson 5 years $51 million. Gonna love it when either he beats Carr or vice versa. We can talk about those ridic contract then.

Are you sure? Titans lose both Finnegan and McCourty to the Rams. Isnt McCourty still in contract?

I doubt Jags will go after Tebow. I've heard nothing about them being interested in him.

Gabbert's contract not that big to be fair ($12 million over 4 years)

As for Orton, i doubt the Cowboys are paying him much more than league minimum anyway. I'm just saying if it were me I would have held out for a shot at a starters job. Orton is no superstar but he is prob good enough to start for a few teams in the league.

Their new owner has wet himself about the thought of getting Tebow!!!

He stated publicly this week that if he was owner at the time he would have drafted Tebow. So yes they really are interested

Now that's a crazy contract. They reckon he wont go over the middle anymore after getting knocked out twice in the past 2 seasons and that he'll only run go routes. He was so poor most the time last year and a distraction to the team. I really thought they would just tag and trade him. Poor piece of business here.

Jaguars are crazy about Tebow. Florida support and all that. For a franchise with serious problems capturing the imagination of its fans he would be a big boost.

He has also said he has no involvement in personnel decisions and that's Smiths job. Tebow is huge in florida no doubt, but long can he fill stadiums when the team is losing?

The GM keeps the owner happy, it doesn't work the other way round!

The Jags have a very solid defence and an elite RB, improve the o-line and get a couple of receivers (re: draft) and the Jags will be a borderline play-off team. There's not a huge difference between the Broncos team at the moment and the Jags apart from receivers with actual potential.

All the Jacksonville based journalists and beatwriters that I follow seem unanimous in their confidence that the Jags have no interest in Tebow.

Ticket sales in Jacksonville are no worse now then they were when the 2010 draft was on (they're actually better). Gene Smith saw no need to draft Tebow then and it sounds like he has no desire to get him now.

Soliai has re-signed with the Dolphins - $24million/3years with $18million guaranteed. They have a few bob to spare now that they won't be getting Manning and Marshall is gone.

Some crazy money being tossed around at the moment.

No one expected McDumb to trade up to No25 and take Tebow in the first round - he was projected as a 3rd rounder and the Jags were planning to take him in the second.

The GM is in charge of all personnel decisions, not the owner. If that was the case Smith wouldn't have a job. GM's keep owners happy by winning, not just by selling out stadiums.

You're trying to get semantical but the simple fact is if the owner wants Tebow the owner will get Tebow, the GM can't really stand in his way. An owner doesn't openly praise a player and said he'd have drafted him to the press unless he's telling the FO, and Tebow himself, in no uncertain terms he'll be actively interested in Tebow were he available.

And either way, when your marque draft pick last season was Blaine Gabbert and your best option going into the season was Luke McCown it's not like this GM has much moral authority when it comes to choosing QBs.

    Agreed.

Gabbert is a lost cause, either this offseason or next they'll need a new QB. If Tebow is available they'd have to make a move for him.

That's a good move, unless Robinson's production is entirely based upon a love affair with Tony Romo.

Of course the GM can't stand in his way. But when you publicly come out and say the GM has makes all personnel decision you can't over-rule him at the first opportunity unless you want to look like a terrible owner and risk having to hire a new GM a month before the draft. Also if an new owner is asked about Tebow he wont alienate a lot of Jag fans by saying he doesn't rate him.

The Browns now have Frostee Rucker, DE. Their defense should be very good next year. Now they have to sort out QB, RB, WR, RT and RG. Anyone know if they're interested in Bush or any of the WRs?

So Hillis is gone. If this was the end of last season i would be in tears but now i'm not so sure. Questions of his health and even bigger ones about his head. When fit he is a beast though. Surely we draft Richardson now?

Turns out now that Hillis has only signed a 1 year $3 million deal. Not big money but he is getting a chance to prove himself again and he is free to move on next season unless he gets tagged which is highly unlikely.

He tweeted "excited" about 2 minutes before the Hillis news broke so he's obv happy to be getting more of a chance. He's showed flashes but he can't stay off the injury table. Don't think he got into the end zone. No 2 for sure. Talk of Bush which i'm not excited about. I want Trent God Dammit. I wanna be excited

Giving him the $3 mill deal shows that it is a "show us you are not crazy" deal. It also shows that the Browns never wanted him back. Heckert and Holmgreen better have a good plan

Mario Manningham visiting with 49ers tomorrow,

I can't help but hope the 49ers put in an offer to Mike Wallace or make a play for Brandon Lloyd ... despite this:

I think the 49ers look good at receiver now. I'd rate re-signing Ted Ginn Jr. as higher than signing any new face, though, he's great on special teams and has developed into a good #3 receiver. If he wasn't injured versus the Giants the 49ers could easily have an extra Lombardi in the trophy case right now.

The Lions look very interested in him but he'd be a huge boon for the team as a whole if they could make a late charge for him.

    Chad Henne is a Jaguar.

Good move for both parties, and further confirms they had no interest in Tebow and that 2 + 2 =/= 5 for those who thought they did.

It seems more of a sign that the writing is on the wall for Manning + Broncos rather than that, honestly.

Not really. If the Jags were crazy about Tebow as some of you were saying, they'd wait and see how it panned out. The fact that they've done a deal for Henne means they've been talking to him all day and getting it sorted with his people - likely they were never even looking at Tebow at all and had no interest as the journalists and beat writers who know the team and have sources have been saying all along. Deals dont just happen in the space of an hour or two.

Which is why they would have been looking at all the available QBs, Tebow was/is only a theoretically available QB in the event of Manning joining the Broncos. They couldn't rely on that solely when their current QBs clearly aren't up to snuff, all the QBs of any value will be gone very soon.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,929 ✭✭✭JaMarcus Hustle

There's been no link between the Jags and Tebow at all apart from the flimsy Florida native - seats need filling theory. There's very little doubt now that the Jags had no interest in Tebow as has been reported quite well at this stage. Let go of those straws ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,216 ✭✭✭Danger_dave1

Henne a jag rules him out Tebow moving there. They've brought in Henne to compete with gabbert at camp. Why have 3 people competing for one spot?

What a ridiculous argument going on here. Firstly its all just rumours about would they or wouldnt they take Tim Tebow. The fact the owner stirred the pot makes every idiot in the main media jump on the band wagon and say he will be a Jag if Manning goes to Denver but it reality Tebow offers nothing to the Jags other than PR and Jersey sales and temporary full stadiums. One would be a fool to think other wise. Why take Tebow to throw footballs when you have Gabbert who has a better pass than Tebow doesnt make a lick of sense. And now taking Henne shows they wont be taking Tim if he comes free.

Nothing apart from the guy who has the final say slobbering all over himself in public at the prospect of Tebow? That's about as direct as you can get. They had more than one pot boiling at the same time if they had any business or sporting sense, the fact they bit on Henne indicates they know something more about the Manning situation than you or me. If they were in the market for a QB, which they obviously were, it makes zero sense that they weren't looking at Tebow being potentially available, even if it was just a directive from the owner.

And Tim, that all boils down to you being a Tebow sceptic, which is an argument for another day.
