Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ladies you may be able to help me out.

I am looking to get a necklace for a foreign girl that is Irish related (something like a shamrock but better) and has enough room to have "I love you" inscribed as gailge. It would be good if there was a real diamond in the necklace also.

Any ideas or links would be appreciated. If I'm going to go this cheesy I may as well make it a good one.

    Thanks.

Against the charter of the Ladies lounge, so better here

    This is pretty

Or this one, a bit more "earthy" looking perhaps:

This goes down the Ogham route too but has "Grá go deo" (Love Forever) on the back:

Or this is also nice, it has "Soul Mate" written as Gaeilge on it, i.e. "Anam Cara"

My favourite is probably the top one but they're all nice really I think.

EDIT: Ha, after all that I noticed the bit you said about the diamond... I think it'd be hard to find something like what you were suggesting without physically going into a jewellers and asking them. An inscribed necklace with a diamond would be pretty unusual, unless you could find a heart with a small diamond in it, but even then the heart would have to be pretty big & that might look a bit tacky.

Also, "I love you" as Gaeilge has a few different translations, and some would be less romantic than others in that they might be something you could say to a family member either. If it's the romantic route you're going, something like "Anam Cara" or "Grá mo chroí" (Love of my heart) would be more effective (and shorter!) than "Tá grá agam duit" or "Is aoibhinn liom thú". Although maybe you know that bit already!

It depends on what sort of style the girl is into, as you can get really chunky stuff, or delicate girly stuff.

I think this is gorgeous as it has a claddagh and little shamrocks on it. No room for engraving though!

This one is lovely, no diamond but it's silver and gold with ogham script.

This is simple but lovely, with room to engrave.

Thanks for the suggestions. Im on the mobile and cant see the images just now but will look at them tomorrow. As far as style goes it would be silver and understated. I was thinking of an irish love knot but that doesn't leave room for the engraving without being so big it would be gaudy.

I came across some necklaces that are silver with a carat (no other rating) diamond and reading more into it its silver plated and the carat diamond for the price is a fake. Will keep searching. I won't be giving it to her until may so there is plenty of time.

I find the auctions the best place to get jewellery. Now that I am retired, I have plenty of time to go around them.

I want to get something new so the auctions are out and as far as getting a piece made that would probably be out of my price range.

What can I expect to get for E1k with the above description/style?

A thousand euro - of course you could get something made for this amount and a lot, lot less depending on the materials! There are loads of goldsmiths listed on the Crafts Council of Ireland including some Irish/Celtic style work eg Niamh Utsch in Dingle -

If you want something made from real metal, real stone and that is 'Irish' without being twee, a commission to a goldsmith is a good bet to help you get what you want.

Sterling silver (she doesn't like gold jewellery) with a real diamond for other reasons would be a necessity. The inscription is not a requirement but would be a very nice touch.

I will have a look around a couple of jewellers in town.
