Ah nuts, no routing

So I've had a nuvi 1340 for about 2 years, and planned on taking it to the US in June for a 3000 mile roadtrip. I bought the US maps last week and received them yesterday. I set about MapSource putting in my day one routing only to discover about an hour later that the 1340 doesn't allow routing. So now, I have 3 choices:

Stick with the 1340 for my trip. I won't just be going A-B each day, it will be A-B via C and maybe D, but if not then definitely E, and I don't want to be using Garmin's fairly rubbish search function every 50miles as my itinerary changes. If I tell it just to go to B, then I have to either turn it off or ignore it's "please proceed to route shown" nonsense, niether of which sounds appealing.

Get a new GPS with routing. At which point, I revert to 2 years ago where I'm trying to figure out which brand and which model, etc etc. Also, the 70 odd quid I've just spent on the Garmin map goes down the toilet as isn't it now tied to the 1340? (It was the DVD version)

Leave both at home and just go with paper maths like some of luddite :)

Your DVD American Map should be fine to install on your new Sat Nav. If you have registered it, you can unregister it and put it on the new unit.

The DVD map should be able to go on any unit. If you are buying a new Garmin, they usually will give you another unlock code.

You might consider buying in the US with a US map already installed. No idea about price.

Tks gbee, I did look into US satnav pricing before I bought the US maps and the maps were definitely cheaper. Also, buying over there wouldn't give me the chance to pre-program my routes, which really just puts me where I am now.

I think the DVD version is locked to the device, but I suspect I could install maps to an sd card and then swap that to my new GPS. Although that suspicion is far from high.

Don't forget that favourites are sorted by proximity, with the nearest at the top of the list, so working off a written list and choosing favourite after favourite might be a possibility.
