Visiting Carlow for Pan Celtic

Hi all. I will be visiting Carlow for the Pan Celtic Festival at Easter and was looking for some ideas of things to do, places to visit etc> while there. Any pointers welcome.

Presume you will have transport?You really must see the Browneshill dolmen, Ducketts' grove and the high crosses at Castledermot and Moone

Teach Dolmain pub is good for grub and there'll be plenty of sessions on.

Cheers, some nice info there. Unfortunately, I don't have transport. Although I.m Cornish I live in Galway and will be travelling to Carlow by train. Having said that, there will be people that will be interested in these places and I will be passing them on. There will be a lot of people in town that week that have arrived from the different countries on buses, mainly, so any other places, activities etc. would be of great interest I'm sure.

In the town itself,the ruins of the castle are easily accessible.

Across the river in Graiguecullen is the "Croppy hole" where the rebels of 1798 were buried in quicklime after the battle of Carlow.

The Arts centre "Visual" is worth a look and the café there is very good for food.

What part of Cornwall are you from?We really enjoyed a trip around parts of Cornwall a few years back.

Thanks again for the reply. I'm from St. Eval, between Padstow and Newquay in the north. There will be a contingent of about 35 Cornish heading for Carlow during the festival.

The ancient cathedral at Old Leighlin is worth the visit and there is a holy well nearby, reputed to have a cure for eye trouble and a "rag bush" where traditionally people hung things as offerings. A real pagan/Christianity cross over!

The Lord Bagnel in nearby Leighlinbridge is a good spot for food and "Brennans on the bridge" is an old style pub with a shop to the front. It is also opposite the "Black castle"

No official campsite, sadly.

Well, there's Carlow Military Museum , wich is located on the athy road and is well wort a visit , its open Sundays from 2pm - 5pm.
