Garden Waste Collection (Skip Bag)...

I took advantage of the nice weather yesterday and decided to *finally* pack up a bunch of old trees, grass clippings, bushes, etc. from the garden into a big skip bag which the previous owner left behind.

The skip bag (it's a "Builders Bag" size) is from A1 Waste, but to be honest all I want is someone who can take this away from me and recycle it correctly. If I had a van or a trailer, I'd take it myself but all the skip collection companies want a stupid amount of cash for it (e.g. €50-90). It won't fit in my Peugeot 407, unfortunately, and it would just take too long to get rid of it all via the compost bin.

I'm looking for any kind of removal company or individual in the Portmarnock area that would offer such as service. I've tried looking online before posting this, but to now avail at all! I'm sure there must be some folks who offer waste removal services - this is already all packed up in a bag and doesn't require any sorting at all! :)

    Thanks in advance!

Who ever you get make sure they have a waste collection permit. It's an offence for you to employ a unlicensed company to dispose of waste, including green/brown waste.
Permits and disposal fees don't come cheap, which is a big factor in why you're charged €50 upwards. I can't see you getting 1 tonne skip bag collected for much less.

Even a car van wil cost 20 euro at the recycling place for green waste so might not be that easy to find someone to do it cheap, and if you do they will probably be dumping it on the side of the road

Hi Wetdaddy, I suggest you get a few reusable garden waste bags, they show up regularly in Lidlaldi.

I have a few of them, I put two in the back seat of the car, one on the passenger seat, and one in the boot. The Bring centre at Coolock charges €2 per bag for green waste. That's €8 and honestly it's more volume than a 1 tonne skip bag.

This method is not really suitable if you have a new car!

Thanks for all the replies, guys. I appreciate the input - not sure exactly what I'll do yet, but I'll take all the options on-board!

There's a place called Mulch in the Malahide Road Industrial Estate that specialises in recycling garden waste (with a licence so it's legit!). I think they even rent trailers if you can't fit it in your car.

Thanks a million - just talked to John in Mulch there and they're definitely the best option. They've given me a bunch of choices of ways to get rid of the waste (collection, drop-off, trailer-rent, etc.) along with free knowledge on all things composting :)

Yea they know their stuff and the compost they have is brilliant. Really good price and it's 100% organic as well so much better than the bord na mona crap.

Update: I used Mulch the other day and they were fantastic. Have to recommend them in the future!

Here's a question: Does anyone know if I can claim this against PAYE a la the regular bin collection / Service Charges?

That's a good question, worth looking into alright! If I find out anything I'll post it up here.
