Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So you're saying a muslim or somebody whose parents/grandparents etc weren't born in France can't be French.....?

no . i was saying that if i arrived on holiday in Saudi Arabia and a good proportion of the people were French ,and i wanted to experience a Muslim culture i would be disappointed , visually only , not on their nationality

like going to Greece and being surrounded by bastardy drunk Danish people for 2 weeks - does not make for a Greek holiday really does it ,

    same applies to my statement

This is very interesting to me. I was in Paris and the weekend. First thing that struck me was the amount of Muslims. I thought I was in Algeria or Saudi Arabia or somewhere. Not that thats a bad thing.

Try Birmingham, Thought I was in the Punjab.

Also enlighten us, what parts of French and Muslim culture are synonymous?

    oh FFS

listen if i showed you a picture of a woman in a full Muslim dress and asked you to name what country she came from you would answer France ??
thats the first country that would come into your head ?? really ......

the guy said he went to Paris on holiday and saw loads of muslins and felt like he was in north Africa or Saudi Arabia , then he said not that there is a problem with that , granted .... but i replied it is if you wanted to go to Paris

he wanted to go to Paris and felt like he was in north Africa ,

i said that was a pisser seeing he wanted to go to France

ta da .... it was a attempt at humour - sorry ya missed it

I wasn't aware that certain religions excluded one from being a part of a country. Not this side of the 20th century at least.

Which specific "muslim culture" are you referring to, as theres a few?

Or, if you're going to have a big whinge about "de muslims takin over"/incompatible with Western culture nonsense, you might drop the foreplay and get down to the main event. Either is good.

Obviously you have never lived in France and I will have to enlighten you a bit.
Go to a public pool, must wear speedos to discourage Muslims wearing their garments in the pool.
Public schools are completely getthoised, as the French don't want to send their kids to a school dominated by Muslim kids.
Suburbs are destroyed in the large cities as complete no go areas as they do not want to embrace the French culture and prefer to form micro communities in high rise apartments at the expense of the taxpayer.
Muslims in France are either North African or from the firmer colonies and they despise the French culture, during any football qualifiers the amount if Algerian flags along the Champs Élysées with youths swinging from cars and shouting abuse at passers by is just the right cultural experience you would delight to see as a tourist strolling hand in hand with your good lady.

Ye sons of France, awake to glory,
Hark, hark! what myriads bid you rise!
Your children, wives and white-haired grandsires.
Behold their tears and hear their cries! (repeat)
    Shall hateful tyrants, mischiefs breeding,
With hireling hosts, a ruffian band,
    Affright and desolate the land,
While peace and liberty lie bleeding?

To arms, to arms, ye brave!
    The avenging sword unsheath,
    March on, march on!
    All hearts resolv'd
    On victory or death!

Now, now, the dangerous storm is rolling
    Which treacherous kings confederate raise!
The dogs of war, let loose, are howling,
And lo! our fields and cities blaze! (repeat)
alt: And lo! our homes will soon invade!
And shall we basely view the ruin
While lawless force with guilty stride
    Spreads desolation far and wide
With crimes and blood his hands embruing?

To arms, to arms, ye brave!...

    With luxury and pride surrounded
    The vile insatiate despots dare,
Their thirst of power and gold unbounded,
To mete and vend the light and air! (repeat)
Like beasts of burden would they load us,
Like gods would bid their slaves adore,
But man is man, and who is more?
Then shall they longer lash and goad us?

To arms, to arms, ye brave!...

O Liberty, can man resign thee
Once having felt thy generous flame?
Can dungeons, bolts or bars confine thee
Or whips thy noble spirit tame? (repeat)
Too long the world has wept, bewailing
    That falsehood's dagger tyrants wield,
But freedom is our sword and shield,
And all their arts are unavailing.

To arms, to arms, ye brave!..

France's Jews and Muslims united Tuesday to complain they were being used as pawns in a presidential election increasingly dominated by bitter disputes over national identity and ritual slaughter.
"France's problems are so major, as we are in a period of crisis, so how can the issue of kosher meat and halal meat be a major problem for France?" asked an exasperated Grand Rabbi of France, Gilles Bernheim.

For its part, the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) slammed what it said was the use of Muslims as "scapegoats" in the election campaign in which halal slaughter of animals has become a hot-button issue.

I guess he's just desperate. Bruni is on the rag, he's in the doghouse, the only woman who pretends to be nice to him is the panzer-like Merkel and Hollande is leading in the polls. A bit of foreigner-bashing is always the last resort of the prick politician who has nothing else to offer. I just hope we don't follow the example of that wizened little leprechaun in Ireland.:):):)

Le Pen probably won't make it. She needs 500 official signatures and is still short.

Everyone is going on about there's "right-wing winds" over Europe. Why is that? People didn't just turn right-wing for no reason.
It could be because of the unprecedented immigration levels, people don't recognise their home towns any more. There is no work and people turn to the easiest explanation, the fordners took the jobs. Of course youtube videos of French immigrant youth attacking police and other citizens doesn't help.

I don't blame the immigrants (that doesn't commit crime) for wanting a better life and moving to wealthy France. I blame the politicians that allowed it to happen too fast.
And what is so surprising is that the immigrants are welcomed by the French left. The left is working class and in direct competition with the immigrants for jobs and resources.
The well educated middle and upper classes aren't worried about their jobs.

Well, that too... but this is Sarkozy you're talking about !!!

He's not the most philosophically-driven president that France has ever had and is not exactly Mr Popularity. He's constantly up to his neck in criticism over slashing cash on personal expenses and also on basically attempting to buy an election, Fianna Fail style through lavishly spending the tax payers' own money.

So, to counteract all this negative press, he'll do anything. You are talking about France's most populist president in a very long time.

Check out these for a bit of a flavour of Sarkozy

It does seem to be a major problem in France. I admire that he is pointing it out but he should do something about it. Cut off immigration. Should do the same in the UK.

Considering the EU is a single market for goods, and people, he's obviously referring to immigtrants from Africa and the Middle East.

They can't prevent people from EU moving to France, as far as I know. Which begs the question, how was he allowed to kick the Roma out a few months ago. They're from Romania, Hungary and other EU countries.

Anyone shed some light on that?

Well just because you're from the EU it doesn't mean they can't kick you out, can't stop you from re-entering as such, but you won't get anything, if you're moving from an EU country to an EU Country, in most instances you have to have a job or the means to support yourself.

The thing is, he's talking out of both sides of his mouth. Rather than say 'we don't need new immigrants...' he talks about 'immigrants' and 'foriegners' - both terms used to describe Frances pre-existing minorities. Thus its essentially bash the minority dressed up as a rational discussion of immigration policy.
