Adter what TOL did to Healy I disagree.

You mean when he tackled him around his neck?

I don't think he'd be able to do that to Gray. In case you didnt notice Gray is about 7ft.

4 box kicks, 1 garryowen. 5 times posession lost to a 2nd rate team.

When we are so good with the ball in hand, why persist with this kicking sh*te uncle Deccie?

None of Sextons kicks have been easy. Especially with that wind. 3 from 4 is a great result.

Earls has been great. Which obviously means he'll be moved to the wing next week.

Funnily enough the backline starts clicking like theres no tomorrow with the Reddan-Sexton combo.

Some finish from trimble, had plenty to do when he got the ball. Similar to his try against the tigers in the HEC.

Earls proving allot of doubters wrong, having a great game. Healy too has been immense...

Some good some bad in that half.

Defence has been a lot poorer then usual.

Attack however has been fantastic at times.

Earls has been picking something up from BOD, because his positioning, his tackling and his passing have been fantastic. Now learn that little step to get away from any defence in the world and we could be sorted for the 13 /jersey for a while. :P

Have to agree, we kick away too much ball. We have a perfectly capable backline.

Great to see earls playing well again today after all the haters on here

Why are people suprised about Earls? I knew there were those who believe he wasn't the best option (and he probably wouldn't have been had Cave been fit) but I find it hard to believe people doubted whether the guy was international class.

Some of those box kicks by Reddan have been very close to being charged down.

    Its not Jonah Lomu Rugby.

Kidney isn't behind the screens with a controller, pressing the button for box kick.

Reddan makes the call on the pitch there and then to make a box kick.

When Murray plays poorly, Its Murrays fault.
When Reddan plays its Kidneys fault.

Difference in quality of service is predictably vast. Nice to see half backs that are capable of playing rugby together, certainly in comparison to the last time they played in Dublin.

Interesting that OMahoney has probably been far more dangerous with ball in hand than SOB had been and yet far less effective at the breakdown. So much for him being a more natural openside as certain pundits suggested.

Most frustrating thing today is Kidneys obsession with territory and the box kicking it leads to. Id love to see this stop but I doubt it will happen for a long time. Apart from that I'd like to see us play a little better on the deck.

    NO. Incorrect. Yellow Card.

Murray delivers slow blow from the scrum/ruck/maul etc.. Reddan delivers quick ball.

Both box kick badly and too often. It is a team tactic to use box kicks and garryowens and we have seen this theme throughout the 6n. A coaching decision to kick rather than pass. Box kicks should only be used offensively, not defensively when the opposition defense can compete for them easily. No SH team box kicks like we do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

Started poorly but we look very dangerous when he keep possession. First try was excellently worked, second one was lucky but Reddan had to be sharp to get it and the third was fantastic. Great build-up and a fantastic finish from Trimble.

The try we conceded was poor.

Reddan's been okay, but even he seems slightly hesitant at the base of the ruck sometimes and his kicking has been poor enough. When he actually speeds things up, he's been excellent.
Earls has been class when he's got the ball and strong in defence too.
Ryan's been excellent, Healy's been superb in the loose, the line-outs hasn't been the disaster expected, the scrum has been strong too.

Not a bad half at all really.

Thats not true. A manager can say, I want you to box kick 9/10 in certain areas of the pitch. Thats like saying a manager's tactics have nothing to do with anything.

The impression I got from reading an article with him a few weeks ago was that when he got injured he told McGahan he wanted to concentrate as a centre.

I reckon he spent a serious amount of time working on his passing then. He was rusty against the Scarlets, but in his last few games, he just looks so much more comfortable taking and passing a full pace. No way would he have thrown that pass a few weeks ago - he would have dummied and had a run.

I suspect this is a case of seriously hard work on his passing, which he really paying off.

    Fair play to him.
