Hi all, I'm just wondering what points are required to do arts degree in primary or secondary teaching or does it vary? If so what would be most common points needed? I'm not in 5th or 6th year so am out of touch with college courses etc. Also, does anybody know of colleges in munster(preferably Waterford) that do this course?

Thanks in advance all help appreciated

Hi, the points on the CAO last year for primary teaching were between 460 and 475. There is no college in Waterford where you could do it, Mary Immaculate college in Limerick is the only place in Munster where you can qualify as a primary teacher

Are those points based on arts degree? I heard it is not that much in some places.

Arts is roughly around the 350 point mark.

If you want a quick look at the different courses go onto qualifax.ie and use the 'search all courses' option. Just search 'arts' and it should give you loads, it'll show the points for each of them too.

An arts degree is a completely different degree.
If you want primary teaching through the CAO you need to do a bachelor of education in one of the main ciolleges- Froebel, Marino, st pats in drumcondra or Mary Immaculate in limerick. (there are post grad options also)

Secondary teaching has a couple of routes, the arts degree is one way however you would need to study hard, get good grades and try get into a h.dip course which is not guaranteed.
