I'd say at least €20 for a taxi. With 2 people and at night? Probably closer to €30.

Aircoach to the Burlington also an option, but 8/9eur each way

Or Luas to Charlemont and a stroll down the canal

Taxi would be 17-20e each way from Leopardstown to Ballsbridge/aviva area.

You could always haggle a taxi for 15 to Ballsbridge from leopardstown, but just agree to that before you get in.
How opposed would you be to a bit of walking / public transport usage?

Luas to town, forgot to mention Just Luas to charlemont and walk down the canal, as suggested above

46a from town to donnybrook> walk through herbert park ( 15 mins walk from bus stop to stadium )

4/7 to Ballsbridge 7/8 min walk to Stadium from bus stop.

Bus from town would be 2.15pp 4.30 total
    +
Luas would be 2.50(?) pp 5e total
So 9.30e total for 2 people

That'd be the cheapest option that I can think of apart from a 25 min walk to the N11, and hopping on the 46a / 145 and repeating the walk through herbert park above; which would only be a 4.30 total, but would be a total of about 45 mins walking.

Granted the town part would soak up some atmosphere in town, but it really depends on your age mobility etc.

Depending on where you're sitting in Lansdowne, a Luas to Ranelagh would probably be the quickest option and the walk with the crowd to soak up the atmosphere is always good. Roughly a 20 min walk from Ranelagh.

I would do this also. Luas, short stroll to Baggot St area and pop into the Waterloo for a pint before. Great atmosphere there. Or the Berkeley Court hotel itself for a pint.

There is a far easier and cheaper option.

Take the 47 bus from outside the hotel on the Leopardstown Road direct to Ballsbridge at the old Jurys Hotel.

Timetable here. Fare €2.15 each way. It operates every hour on the half-hour from either terminus all day.

Allow about 5 minutes for the bus to get from the terminus to that stop.

If you have a smart phone, use http://www.dublinbus.ie/RTPI/ to get live information for the stop you're getting on at (stop number is displayed on the bus stop head).

Aircoach is not an option - they can only set down at the Airport.
