Sports Leave Entitlement

Was wondering what the entitlements are for sports leave for a secondary level teacher when representing Ireland. I have read a bit on the ASTI web site, but it's a bit vague if you can or cannot be turned down. Anyone on here that can help???? Thanks:)

Teacher I used to work with was involved with the Irish Surf Team as a coach, he didn't have any trouble getting time off but I don't know what the story was with regard to pay.
