    Hi
Way way back in the early 2000s I was doing a BSc (Hons) in Information Technology / Diploma in IT in Oscail (DCU).

Unfortunately I had to finish early mainly for financial reasons so although I did not complete the degree, I did complete the diploma level successfully.

Can anyone tell me what level of NFQ I have acheived? I have looked at the diagram at the NFQ website
    http://www.nfq.ie/nfq/en/images/FanDec2006.jpg but I'm still a bit confused.

The diagram says that a level 8 includes a Higher Diploma but I'm not sure.
    Any help appreciated.
    Max

I think you have a level 7. A higher diploma refers to a grad diploma, as in a qualification en route to a masters.

Hi, I agree that the Diploma you mention probably compares to the current Ordinary Bachelor Degree at Level 7 in the NFQ. The Ordinary Bachelor Degree is a new qualification introduced with the NFQ (i.e post 2003). The following link provides extra detail for qualifications that existed before the NFQ http://www.nfq.ie/nfq/en/images/LegacyFan.JPG

The best way to be sure about your qualification is to ask the university.

I have to disagree about the Higher Diploma - it is at Level 8 and is typically achieved after a conversion course e.g. degree in something, then Higher Diploma in e.g. Computing to retrain. The Postgraduate Diploma is the qualification that can be achieved on the way to a Masters and it is at Level 9, as is the Masters Degree.

You have a level 7 on the nfq framework, i have taken that course also but never got further than the diploma myself:(

You can go onto the dcu website and download an excel page that has all their courses and levels. Our course was the last one on the sheet.

p.s are you working in the IT field with this course?

    Thanks everyone for your help.

At present I am one of the many unemployed. Things may be difficult as I'm well into my fifties so not sure how employable I am.

I'm currently in that course myself... (2 more months to sweet freedom..)

I would have sworn it was a 7 myself until i looked here

    https://www.dcu.ie/oscail/underfaq.shtml#q14

I have no idea what a "Minor award" means. I don't see it on this

    http://www.nfq.ie/nfq/en/FanDiagram/nqai_nfq_08.html

I still think it should be a counted as 7 but i think you should check with DCU directly.

    Thanks

I have emailed Oscail so hopefully will get an answer during the week.

I received a reply this morning from Oscail about my query.

They confirmed what was said here that I have obtained level 7.

    They included this link:

    http://www.nfq.ie/nfq/en/awards_in_the_framework.html#higher

which further points to links with Excel sheets showing different courses and their NFQ levels.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

I just received an email from the registry at DCU to say that I am at level 8.

Now I'm more confused than ever.

If you didn't complete the full honours degree you didn't get a level 8 award. Ordinary Degree/Diploma is Level 7.
