Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Paying extra for a blowdry?

I'm just made an appointment for for hair in a salon in Dublin. I normally just get it done in the local one but since none of them do balayage I'll have to go a bit further. They didn't give me a price for the colour (its on quotation), so we'll have to see about that. But its 52€ for a cut and I normally pay 27-30€ at home. They said is 25€ for a blow-dry which seems a lot.

Would I seem like the cheapest person if I got my hair dyed and then didn't get it blow dried. My hair is short and curly so I generally don't blow dry it much normally (just around my face, and a quick blast of the rest of it) and tidy it up if necessary with a ghd/tongs.

Obviously I'll have to wait and see what the overall price would be but....would this be ridiculous? I've need got my hair dyed professionally before.

Ps. If its not obvious from by broke-ness I'm a student! and they don't give student discount.

€25 for a blow is outrageous.

I heard of this ages ago, salons reducing their prices, but then charging extra for blow dry.

I personally wouldn't see it as "cheap" or "ridiculous" for only getting your hair dyed and not paying extra for a blow dry, and certainly not €25.

I'm sure that €25 could go towards rent/bills/food etc.

Are there any other salons that do balayage (what is that by the way?) that you could go to that would be cheaper?

Not that I can see. I'm only in Ireland until Thursday and was going to try the toni and guy training place but the guy offered me appointment in 4 weeks time. I have the appointment with Zeba and it says from 45€ on their site but it will obv be a lot more. The only reason I'm going with them is cos they say colour is half price on mondays.
I want to grow my hair out a little bit so I'm not that pushed about paying 50€+ on a hair cut. Esp when the normal place I got to its 27 for a haircut ...with a blowdry.

Is this a normal thing. Paying extra for a blow dry? Surely everything a hairdresser does (other than up-do's) is going to require a blow dry. Shouldn't it just be included?

What part of Dublin can you get to? Others may be able to recommend/suggest places to go to which could be cheaper?

Is this the place you are talking about?

    http://www.zeba.ie/price_list_south_williams_street.html

At the bottom of that list it says
Balayage / fashion colouring from €45 by quotation
Prices do not include shampoo, blowdry or cutting. For a more detailed breakdown, please contact us at 01 6716444

So you have to pay extra for shampoo, blow-dry and cutting?

How on earth is that salon still in business with prices like that?! They are very very expensive.

It seems nowadays it's normal to pay extra for blow drying, there was a time when blow drying was included in the prices, guess with the recession etc, salons started charging extra for blow dries, guess it's another way to get more money.

I remember one salon I used to go to, for a wash, cut and blow dry it was €25, then one time I was in there, got the hair done (wash/cut/b'dry) and it was €45, I couldn't believe it, when I got home and checked my receipt I saw the blow dry was €20.

Yep, that's the place. I'm not sure I'll bother now tbh. I'm in Meath so I can go city centre/ northside. It was only the half-price deal that had me interested .

I'm near Ashbourne, and the only place I can find in Meath that does balayage is Peter Mark in Navan. I made an appointment there for a consultation. - tho I doubt it'll be much of a difference, but I won't have to pay bus fare in at least (thats 9€ now too!) I understand that its hard to give a price on the phone for colour but it's rather annoying to have to go in and have no idea if it'll end up at 75€ for colour/cut/dry or closer to 200€. That whole "extra for shampoo, blow dry etc" bit is very vague... and they are even more vague on the phone. I understand you're talking to a receptionist not a colourist but still... some info would be helpful.

I'm sure its easier if you go to them regularly.

Oh my god that is an absolute joke charging for a blow dry there is no way I would pay extra for that I'd rather leave with wet hair. I'm sure there are plenty more places around that do a great job on balayage without taking the p*ss out of their clients. I have seen other threads on here talking about it and comparing prices have a look through the search bar.
I hope you get sorted and if you do let us know so we can have nice hair too:D

I'm afraid I started a thread and looked at a few others and the consensus seems to be Style Club, Toni and Guy etc. But they are all super expensive.

I was going to try the toni and guy training school (a bit of a chance but it says its 30€) but he guy said the next appointment was 4 weeks away...

    So the search continues!

Just saw this part of your post. Its some new way in highlighting your hair. So that the just paint on the colour. You leave the roots more or less untouched. Its looks like grown out highlights. I want it done subtly just for some sort of change that won't require any touchup for like 6 months (for money and cos I live abroad). And I want to grow my hair out from its current bob length so it can grow with the colour. (I hope!) Some examples:

If you r in Meath you Gould give Ben Garry hair salon in Navan a try, he's pretty up to date with styles so I would be surprised If he didn't do the bayonage ( sorry I can't remember how you spell it!)
I used to go there all the time , if you can get Ben he is great but there are a lot of great stylists in there ( my opinion )

Also, I think paying extra for blow dry I ridiculous !!! Can't believe people are doin this!

Just a little update for anyone interested. I went to Pzazz in the Powerscourt Centre. 100€ for a wash/cut balayage... including blow dry. I found it through the site salon addict.ie so when I rang up I said the price on the internet and they told me what price it would be before I went in.

I think I'm happy with the results... although I told the girl I want to grow my hair out and had grown out my fringe, but she still took loads off the layers and cut back in a long fringe or shorter layers round the front (my hair is short anyway). but now I can't tie it all up cos the layers are so short.

My hair didn't take the colour very well (and I didn't have colour in it before), so they had to do it 3 times, over 2 days, but they didn't charge extra.

Overall for the price and hassle of going into town, I don't think theres any incentive to go back.
