Extremely angry at complacent owner.

I live in a house that my back garden leads onto a main road. I have a labrador who everyone loves and he is great with people and most dogs. But a while back I noticed this man in his 50's with his German Shepard and his wife stop at my back gate and letting his dog snarl in and bark at my dog. This dog did not have a muzzle. I have caught them a few times doing this and was extremely angry at why they were doing this but couldn't get out in time to them to ask why they were doing this.

Tonight however I caught him. I was on my way to the shop and I noticed this man, his wife and dog walking along, he even crossed the road so he could get onto the side where my dog was. I watched as he walked up to my back gate and stood there and let his dog snarl in at my dog. I ran up to them and asked what the hell was his problem and he started walking away. I told him his dog should have a muzzle on as its against the law to not have one and its not the first time I caught him letting his dog doing this. He basically told me that I should keep my dog away from his and started walking away. I was so angry I was shaking.

I decided that I would report him to the gardai because I didnt want him to do it again and maybe it might make him actually put a muzzle on his dog.

Did anyone else have something similar happen to them??

I would hate to see that dog biting a person or dog because of this complacent owner.

He sounds like a not very nice person. Best avoided. But no harm in letting the Garda know of his aggressive behaviour.

Let your local dog warden know, they may take more notice than the guards. I think the guards will only want to know if he's on your property.

You can't stop him passing your gate, you can insist the GSD wears a muzzle.

As a gsd owner, OP, your post annoys me as that fool at your back gate is the type that gives RB dogs and their owners a bad rep.

I think it's a very odd situation, as the owner is deliberately coming up to your gate.

But.. I don't understand... Why is he even bringing his dog over in the first place? Why does he want the dog to snarl at yours?! That sounds weird to me! :S

I really don't know why he does it. Maybe he likes seeing my dog getting wound up over his dog snarling at him.

Do you know this couple at all:confused: Seriously, get in touch with the warden, they will just approach them when they are out walking and do him for not having a muzzle.

If the warden gets more than one call about the same dog, they will take action.
I advised my friend to get the dog warden as she can't walk up her own road because of 2 dogs barking and snarling at her and kids. Her 8yo was surrounded by 2 dogs while on his bike and now he won't go with her.

Warden came and took one dog, but now they are at it again as he gave it back on the promise of it being kept in his garden, where there is ample room.

One nearly went for me today, I wouldn't believe how bad the situation was and walked with her today. I've told her to get the warden again.

I don't mean to go off topic, and the above is only as an example of how good dog wardens can be, so I think they may be your best bet. Give it a shot anyway, ring first thing Monday. This guy doesn't sound like a good dog owner.

And, if he says he's just socialising the dog, tell him he doesn't have your permission, this has been used as an excuse before.

Our local dog warden is great, he covers a huge area but still helps when needed as we always get strays here.

Thanks for the advise. I will definitely try that!! And I don't know this couple from adam, only from them annoying my poor doggie :(

My god that is shocking, there is nothing worse than kids getting a fright from animals.

I hope it works out well for you, sadly there are just idiots out there that enjoy that sort of nonsense. I was in my front garden last summer, doing some gardening, now my cat was sitting on the wall watching me. I saw a guy in his 50's walking a few metres away with the dog off the leash. I didn't mind the dog being off the lead since the guy was with him and I recognised the guy from the area. I started petting my cat and the next thing I heard was the guy shouting to the dog, from across the green, to 'get that cat'. At first I thought he was joking, right until he went for my cat with me beside him.
I got my cat before the dog could. Now what I didn't call that cnut isn't worth repeating and he just laughed. I don't know the guys name I just recognise him from seeing him with the dog everyday and seeing the dog outside his house. I'd never spoken to him before so I think hes just a nutter.

Some people just dont deserve to be allowed to keep any kind of animal. Have mentioned before some people who live locally and allow their dogs to run loose on the road, we have now lost count of the number of dogs they have had killed on the road. Last time i worked it out it was up to between 10 and 12 in perhaps 18 months.

As regards both cases here, report the owners immediately. Sounds like a right pair of scumbags to be honest.

I'd ask the gardaí to log the incident rather than go after the guy. I'd be afraid that he'd lob a bit of poisoned meat over the wall. You've no proof that he did anything unless they're caught in the act.

The op did catch him in the act, and you make a good point, I'd do what you're recommending, just to have it on paper, should it escalate.

Personally, I wouldn't like to engage with this guy, he sounds a bit too nasty for my liking.

Log the incident with guards anyway

what a strange rude man !

You should put a sign up on your fence CCTV in operation, wonder if he'd be so quick to approach your house then !

keep a camera near by, if you get a chance take a picture of him at it and inform him you've done so. next time he does it let him know you'll be showing the pictures to the dog warden because he's breaking all sorts of laws in relation to keeping an RB dog...

    what a scumbag

I appreciate your concern & there is always the worry that it will make your dog wary of other dogs. Twice a day I have to walk past a house with two dogs that rush out snarling. This all started when I got a young male to join my two females & they clearly see him as a threat.

As he matured my little chap decided that he was going to bark back & not be intimidated. I was really worried that it might influence his behaviour with other dogs but luckily it hasn't.

As others have suggested try & gather evidence. In any event keep a notebook & record times & dates.

Love this part! You need to keep your dog ( which is in it's own property, locked up safely) away from his ( who he purposely brings over to your gate to antagonise your dog) How does that work
