Hows it going, I'm new to the whole PC gaming scene and I'm doing my first build. So far www.dabs.ie seems to be the cheapest site I've found, with the biggest range.

I've also found: pixmania, komplett, custom pc ireland, digistore, hardwareversand.de. While decent enough, none of these sites seem to be as good as dabs, for both price and selection.

(I wonder if amazon.co.uk is any good? just a thought. I'd search it now myself only i've already spent half the morning building a wishlist on dabs to get an idea of my checkout price, and now I have to go to work. So I figured I'd ask in here.)

Which - in your opinion - is the best (and cheapest) site to buy your parts?

    Thanks folks :)

Hardwareversand for full builds, anything over the €400 mark. Dabs or Komplett for everything else.

Scan.co.uk has a great selection also and shipping is reasonable. I agree with HWVS for full builds but if you want to pick up individual parts it would be a case of looking around all the sites you have mentioned above.

    Another would be memoryc.ie

cheers, but I'd rather build myself rather than going with the full build. It's a project I'm setting for myself. At least then I'll be able to upgrade (myself) when the time comes.

I've found Dabs to be equal to HWVS up until anywhere between €200-300, then you start to see HWVS pull ahead. I've used Dabs a lot in the past. There's also Specialtech for modding and watercooling parts, as well as Scan and Overclockers (though they tend to be on the expensive side).

As well as those, there's MemoryC for basically anything flash-memory-based, and QuietPC for a couple of silent PC speciality parts.

Then of course there's the ones you already know of - Amazon, Komplett, Pix, etc. The one last one I use is DealExtreme. Very handy for random bits and bobs that you don't need right away.

All of the sites above I've used more than once (with the exception of Scan and HWVS), and have all been great to deal with (Dabs being the minor exception - the one RMA I've had with them took a while). I tend to not bother with Scan, as they're login process always gives me trouble. I was going to go with Dabs for my server build, but I've decided to give HWVS for the first time, seeing as everyone here uses them.

    Hope that helps...

thanks man. i'll check out those sites! but if they are more expensive - like u say - then chances are ill stick with dabs. I'm looking to build an entire rig, peripherals incl, from scratch. As u c below. It's already costing a pretty penny!

you do build it yourself on HWVS. well, strictly speaking, you can get them to build it for you for an extra €20 if you wanted.

I'm used HWVS numerous times with no problem. I've had to RMA once with them and it was painless. its a €30 flat rate for shipping, no matter how large or small the order, which means it only becomes worthwhile over the ~€400 as said before.

I ordered most of my stuff from Komplett.ie and so far no issues. I like the fact that they give me 2 years warranty and have free delivery on everything. I don't know about Dabs.ie. I odered a mouse 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't arrived yet. Is this the normal delivery time frame for them, 2 to 3 weeks?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,180 ✭✭✭Serephucus

If it was in stock, you should have got it inside of a week. Otherwise, I've no idea.

Not quite sure, man. have yet to order from them. Is Komplett not pricey though?

I don't think it's pricey at all especially when you consider they included free delivery. For example my CPU cost me 190 Euro at the time and the cheapest was on the German site for 180, but when you factor in the delivery it come's out cheaper. My SSD that I bought a few weeks ago was about 10 Euro's more but again the free delivery makes it abut the same. I also like the fact that if there is an issue I can speak to someone in Dublin about it. Although, if you are buying a whole system the German site would work out a lot cheaper. The only thing that isn't great about Komplett is they don't have a wide selection of stuff to choose from. But, saying that the stuff they do have is excellent.
