Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bike Advice for a new rider

    Hey all,

Was hoping to get some advice on which bikes would be suitable for a learner. Most of my riding would be commuting from Ringsend up to Santry and back. I've never ridden a bike before, but I'm currently thinking about going for something around the 250cc range, so I get the full A license when I go for my test.

Ive been looking at the Honda CBR250, which is a nice looking bike and seem comfortable. The problem that I see with it is that it cant take a back box. Are there alternatives for a box that would suit commuting? Ive seen bags that you can put on the pillion seat but I travel with my camera gear all the time and I amnt sure how much space a bag would give me or how much protection itd give. Id be taking a camera, change of clothes and a few bits and pieces with me every day.

I also like the ninja 250 but it has the same problem of luggage and is abit out of my price range & the hyosung 250 that I just wasn't as comfy with. Can anyone recommend some good bikes to look into that would be good for a learner, not too expensive, but has good options for luggage?

    Thanx!!

2 potential things to consider : sports bikes and luggage don't really go, and sports bikes and cheap doesn't really go.
Have you called for an insurance quote for any of these bikes?
For commuting luggage i use a tank bag.

I bought a hyosung gv650 from the uk in april 2010 for €2500, list price in ireland at the time was €6000. I got the bike as I wanted something that had the poke when needed so I got a restrictor fitted and I would not even notice the difference.

I would buy something bigger rather than smaller as you will no doubt enjoy a.bigger bike.. I bought mine on ebay and picked it up in london... Great deal so have a look there as well.... I would not choose a smaller bike to start... But enjoy and avail of the free parking as well :)
