    What do ye think?
    tayto.jpg

Personally, I think I'll be grabbing a Comer group jersey when they reduce the price. It looks atrocious.

So here's our schedule for division 3:

    Feb 3 : v Monaghan (Away)
    Feb 10: v Wicklow (Away)
    Mar 2 : v Cavan (Home)
    Mar 10: v Roscommon (Away)
    Mar 16: v Sligo (Home)
    Mar 24: v Antrim (Away)
    Apr 7 : v Fermanagh (Home)

Was hoping for four home games but only got three. Not exactly a walk in the park, especially with two tough away trips in the first two games. If we're gonna get back up to division 2, we really have to leave behind our terrible away record.

Not too keen on that carpet pattern, to be honest

Heard of this before alright. Had no idea it was still going on. What I've also heard (though I'm not sure if it's true) is that the fella is actually a Meath man.
But whatever county he's from, it's obvious he's not entirely right in the head.

It has to be said that Louth football would be much better off moving and forgetting about that particular incident.

I support Louth as sort of my second team (I'm from the Louth border and went to school in Louth) and wish them well but this sort of thing just brings the wrong sort of attention to them and louth would be better off without it.

So the senior and Intermediate finals are on Sunday. What's everyone's views on them?
Think Na Fianna will have enough for Trim in the Intermediate. NOM - Tones will depend on how Cian Ward does. If O'Mahony's don't concede too many frees on the day, I'd say they'll have enough to win. The winners of the senior final play away to the winners of the Longford champions Emmet Óg and St. Anne's of Wexford.

Can't see past Na Fianna. Haven't seen Trim play this year admittedly, but played Na Fianna for each of the last 2 years and they are very strong. Teams can't just focus on Jamie Queeney as he's not even their best player. Foley (?) is a class player and the corner forward, Barrett (?) also seems to score a goal and a few points per game. It will be intriguing to see how they get on.

As for the senior, NOM should win. They weren't very impressive against D/A but ground out the win, a sign of a good team we are often led to believe. I saw them against Simonstown in the 1/4's and they could easily have lost that game, depsite the scoreline. Simonstown had 2 great goal chances in first half and hit the crossbar in second from which NOM went up the far end and scored a goal, a 6 point swing and major psychological lift. Despite this, think NOM will win but not without a struggle!

Hopefully it's two good games. Na Fianna do seem to be a class above the rest of the teams in Intermediate (which I think has far too many poor teams in it) and I'd hope they can overcome Trim on Sunday.
I'd love to see Tones win the senior. I've been a great admirer of this Wolfe Tones team ever since they hockeyed us in the Junior final all of 9 years ago (with a 17 year old Cian Ward notching 2-4 if I remember correctly).

Hope to god that Donal Keoghan notches Young Player of the Year on Friday.

Ah you're a Ratoath man Hammer Archer!

Big U-21 game tonight in Donore, first time in Divison 1 of that grade for many a year!

Reckon an NOM and Na Fianna double will get the bank balance in check nicely for the long weekend

If only I had remembered to put the bet on!
Great fightback from Trim in second half but had left themselves far too much to do. Goal after 15 seconds in senior final set O'Mahonys up lovely. Was always going to be hard for the Tones to claw their way back from there.

For my troubles. Simonstown ended up winning by 4 points in the U21. To be honest, I wasn't really expecting much. Brian Power and Bobby O'Brien were injured and McManus and Boyle were unavailable. Most of the rest of the team have had a long year with the Juniors (and it's not even over yet).

As for the finals today, they were both pretty poor affairs. Na Fianna looked out of sight at half time but nearly self destructed in the second half, especially with the goal they conceded.
The senior final was awful. NOM didn't have to get out of second gear and still won comfortably. The passing skills of both teams left a lot to be desired. It was nice to see David Bray get a point towards the end though.

O'Mahony's play Emmet Óg from Longford in the Leinster Championship. Kiltale beat Confey of Kildare in the Leinster Intermediate Hurling Championship.

Thought Ratoath left the game behind them. Can't really say McManus would have added anything having been away all summer and not playing GAA for about 2 years. The other 3 mentioned were huge losses alright but sad to see only 3/4 subs, I assume the minors still playing meant some players wouldn't commit. Hopefully the young lads who weren't playing all put more effort in next year and stick with it, big panels needed these days and these guys need proper coaching and the feeling of being wanted in the squad. It was evident that a lot of the Ratoath lads hadn't played much this year and it was a collusal effort to get within a few points of a team with senior players playing. Onwards and upwards I say.

As a Trim man very disappointed but they gave themselves too much to do in the second half. Anyway onwards and upwards.
Kevin Reilly off to Sweden to see a specialist, hope this once and for all sorts out his issues. Will miss a bit of the league but i'll happily give that up if hes fit all summer

Hope Kevin regains full fitness alright.

iDave, where was Alan Douglas this year? Has he given up, gone away, injured? He was a very good player for Meath under 21s a few years ago I recall.

Douglas is in Australia along with half of Trim. Massive loss to both the hurling and football teams.

Was at the Feis Cup Final yesterday after the Tailteann Cup. Is senior club football in Meath really that bad? While O'Mahony's were missing a fair few of their first team, Walterstown were appalling. Were very lucky to be anywhere close to O'Mahony's at half time with both of their goals basically being flukes. I know they probably haven't been training hard for it, but even the basic skills were lacking.

In other news, Na Fianna beat Castletown/Finea in the Leinster IFC championship. They're playing O'Connell's of Louth in the semi final on Sunday week. We have the "honour" of hosting Castleknock on Sunday in the Leinster JFC semi final on Sunday in what will be Ciarán Kilkenny's final game for them before heading off to Australia. We're missing a raft of players for it as well.

New Meath jersey with Tayto Park released. If anyone follows Fergal Lynch of the Meath Chronicle or Club Na Mi on Twitter you can see pics

David Gallagher has called it a day, what are peoples thoughts on this? I'd like to see Paddy O'Rourke back in the net unless someone new can be found.

the same article on hoganstand says Mark Ward and Chris O'Connor wont be on next years panel. Personally I wont miss Ward.
Tobin heading to Australia too, thats a shame, the lad has serious potential.

I wonder when will the 2nd jersey be for sale, always prefered the yellow one. The keepers one is up on o neills, suppose it'd be the same thing

Hopefully the new manager will take this opportunity to try out new keepers and not just go back to O'Rourke. Maybe they should try out a dedicated keeper rather than convert another outfielder as in Gallagher & O'Rourke.

Pleasantly surprised how well the new jerseys look, especially considering Mr Tayto isn't the best looking fella in all fairness to him. Definitely the nicest meath jersey in a long time!

Don't think they've been on them since Menolly were sponsors. They were the ones who built Dunboyne Castle.

Longford, Louth and UCD in the new look O'Byrne Cup/League. Longford away (on January 6th) and the other two at home (on the 9th and 13th).
Also, ye are all welcome to come to the Ratoath game against Castleknock on Sunday in Ratoath at 2.30pm. We'll need all the support we can get as we're missing pretty much half of our outfield team.

Haven't Meath teams been consistently winning the Leinster club JFC? I know ballivor did last year and I think balinabrackey and longwood before them

Wouldn't do for Ratoath to let the side down this time round eh!! :P

Sure we won it back in 2004 didn't we :pac: I think Meath teams have won it every year for the past 5 years. But Castleknock have put 8-32 on the board in their two games so far. Supposedly they're an awesome side.
We'll be missing 7 of the side that appeared in the junior final (including 4 ex Meath minors).

Well that was not a good weekend for Meath clubs. O'Mahony's hammered, Ratoath hammered, Kiltale caught at the death and St. Pats hurlers hammered (though having seen their opponents the the Elevens tournament in Ratoath, I've no idea why they were playing them). Let's hope Rathmolyon and Na Fianna get on better at the weekend.

  • Registered Users Posts: 456 ✭✭Obrieski

Disappointing to say the least by NOM, would have expected a much better showing than that.

As for Ratoath, they were unlucky in that they came across a very good Castleknock side. Having 14 men for the second half didnt help in the slightest as I suspect that tiredness played a huge part in the second and third goals, especially considering the defence were under siege from very early on due to a very poor forward display. It would be a very good tussle between the two when both at full strength. A great year for the club nonetheless.

Hopefully Na Fianna continue their great run of form and best of luck to them

I've no idea what the straight red card was for. Though while the player in question is a top class player, he can be a liability when it comes to discipline. Thought the final score was a bit flattering for Castleknock. Their two goals in the second half had a fair bit of luck in them. I'd say they'll win the final easily though.

    Fergal Lynch ‏@truefergallynch
Best of luck to Meath and Rathmolyon hurler Mike Cole who headed to the Lebanon today for his 3rd tour of duty
