The Star newspaper national newspaper said at end of last week Eamon Fitzmaurice and Donie Buckley are linked to Colm O Rourkes new management team, the star said in their words " Former kerry boss Eamon Fitzmaurice is linked to the Royals great new set up". The article was written by sports Journalist Paul keane who I think is a Meathman from Rataoth now living kilmessan.

The star said Colm O Rourke was specifically asked about Eamon Fitzmaurice and Donie Buckley as part of his management team. According to the star newspaper O Rourke didn't rule either of them out.

If Fitzmaurice was not in talk with Meath, O Rourke would have said straight out no. When O Rourke was asked about Fitzmaurice being part of his management team he didn't deny according to reports in the national media. And in the local media LMFM asked Colm O Rourke was there any substance to rumours in Meath that were circulating everywhere that Eamon Fitzmaurice and Donie Buckley were part of his management team. He didn't rule them out or deny it eitheir to LMFM, Meaths main radio station. Remeber Colm is very experienced with the media after decades of punditry & journalism.

The media asked Colm O Rourke straightout was Eamon Fitzmaurice and Donie Buckley part of his management and he didn't deny it. Fitzmaurice has being talking with Meath county board for a while now, even attending interview.

The Star newspaper also mentioned Eugene Eviers from Meath Ladies S and C could also be part of O Rourkes management team as well as Fitzmaurice.

According to the star Newspaper O Rourke said he is great believer in having a structure where the people around him are better at things than he is and it has worked in every organisation he has been involved in and he continues to do that here.

Kerry had 22 on their management team last Sunday. O Rourke had 19 people as part of his management team when he managed Simontown to 2 senior club titles. He will have much bigger team for Meath. It will probably biggest and most varied Meath management team ever. O Rourke said it will take time to get everyone sorted out so we will have to wait. If that 30 to 40 it could take a few weeks before we hear his huge management team. If Colm pulls this off and hopefully it happens gets Fitzmaurice and Buckley, as getting All Ireland winning manager at his peak and one of best coach's of his generation, it would be one of the most impressive management team put together in leinster football. Time will tell. I think all Meath fans would be delighted if Fitzmaurice joins the management team and of course our neighbours would not be happy, they wud be raging.

Best of luck to ladies today and hopefully end a great week for Meath football. Onwards and upwards for Meath, as Meaths begins the next chapter new exciting era for Meath football.

Think the ref wants to be the star of the show! Duggan misfiring but our better forwards should see us out.

Well done Meath. Richly deserved. Defended brilliantly and played some lovely football.

Some acheivement to do back to back coming up from intermediate.

They've improved every round and peaked in the final.

Good game. Only gripe was the Ref, not playing advantage on numerous occasions.

    Terrible card for Vikki.

Even the refs don’t know how to handle her!!

    Absolute legends!

That ref is dreadful, she makes a mess of every game she gets.

what was the attendance did they announce it ? .

She’s too whistle happy. Ruins even club games but they keep giving her large profile games because she’s a woman. Regardless of her gender, her performance should be what she is judged on.

Meath much the better team. Kicked an awful lot wide and into the keepers hands. I thought number 7 Aoibheann Cleary was very good.

not bad if that was the case hard to tell looking on tv and some if not a lot of earlier match crowd leaving after their game hard to get fans to stay for more than one match in general I have found .

46000 I think was the attendance. Think if it wasn't on the bank Holiday weekend, it could have been higher.

Was nice to be able to enjoy the last 10 minutes or so without the usual heart attacks. Thought Kerry's tactics, while admirable, were quite naive and just played into our hands. Emma Duggan didn't have her best game going forward but Niamh O Sullivan stepped up and was magnificent. Her point late in the first when she turned her marker inside out was sublime. Hard to pick between Troy or Cleary for POTM.

It's hard to believe the success that this team has achieved in the last few years. Division 3 champions in 2019, All Ireland Intermediate champions in 2020, division 2 and All Ireland Senior champions in 2021, division 1 and All Ireland Senior champions in 2022. Such a shame they're losing the players they are for next season.

Homecoming in Navan this afternoon at 3pm in the Fair Green car park.

Some rise for Meath from a few years ago should show others it can be done . Best team won but Kerry were very naive they should have known who they were playing and thought of something a bit different .

Having Boylan involved would be fairly massive for Meath.

Writing in his Sunday Independent column, O'Rourke stated: "Of course I can also turn to Seán Boylan.

"He will have open access to the team as adviser, counsellor, motivator or whatever else he wants to be.

"He makes people feel good about themselves and young people like him. That is another ingredient of good management. If you get on well with people it makes things a lot easier."

Boylan is a great appointment. For now, I think mention of others is just noise. According to the Mayo news, Donie Buckley is on Kevin McStay’s ticket in Mayo for example.

There are a few “glamour” names like Buckley & Rochford being linked with just about every county going. Papers like The Star have pages to fill in empty Summer months now and paper doesn’t refuse ink.

I see Emma Troy is also moving to Australia, though not to play Aussie Rules. Going to take a monumental effort to go for 3 in a row next year.

Senior Football Championship starts at the weekend. Group C is easily the most interesting group. We've also got ex-NOM legend Kevin Reilly managing Trim against NOM managed by ex-Trim legend Darren Fay.

IFC (5-team groups C & D) and the JFC are already underway for a few weeks. Pat's look like they've gotten their form back as they've won their first two having not won a group championship game since 2017. Rathkenny, Duleek/Bellewstown and Dunshaughlin all look like they'll be in the mix too. Clann na nGael have surprisingly lost both games comfortably and could be back in Junior if they don't improve quickly.

Have to say fair play to the Meath Ladies. I've been getting text updates all afternoon from our club, the team seem to have decided to undertake a little tour of the county and they'll be in the area soon. I sincerely hope this is some sort of epic pub crawl for them as they deserve to get every inch of celebration they can. They have to make up for the lack of it the last two years.

They look a very well coached team, has their manager had any success coaching mens teams in the past?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,492 ✭✭✭dobman88

Could be seeing the Meath ladies influence the men's teams next year

Some big results in the senior championship over the weekend. Summerhill hammering Dunboyne, Seneschalstown easily accounting for St. Colmcille's, Tones starting their defence with a win. St. Colmcille's really should be making more inroads into the SFC with the young talent they've had. They really should be beating Seneschalstown.

Kells feel they should have beaten Donaghmore Ashbourne by more.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,411 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Podge McKeever scores 2-8 and ends up on the losing team. Some scoreline in Ashbourne. Wonder when the last time a losing team scored 23 points in the championship. Great to see Bobby O'Brien back for Ratoath but the defence is definitely a worry. Won't win another Keegan if they don't tighten up.

NOM look destined for intermediate going by today's result.

Some scoring across all the championships this weekend. I wonder is it to do with playing the games in summer weather or have defences across Meath gone on holidays!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,411 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Dunboyne into the relegation playoffs along with NOM. If Ratoath beat Donaghmore/Ashbourne later today then both they and Simonstown will be there too.

Dunshaughlin look like they're strolling to the IFC. I know Blackhall have regressed a huge amount but managing only 1 point in the game is pretty dismal even for them.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,411 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

3 of the 4 senior football groups are all done and dusted regarding knockout/relegation playoffs (only final standings to be decided). Only group A has anything left to play for with all 4 teams still in the running for the knockouts or relegation. Not sure how I feel on the bottom 2 going into the relegation playoffs. While on the one hand, it guarantees at least 4 championship games to every single team, there's also the potential for a team to lose their first 5 games and surviving by scraping a win in the relegation final.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,949 ✭✭✭dixiefly

I agree. I actually think that we should try and evolve to a 12 team championship. 4 groups of 3 teams. Top team in each group goes to semifinal. Bottom team in each group goes to semi final of relegation play offs.

It might allow development of regional competitions like O'Rourke is requesting or allow more of an emphasis on the league.

Éamonn Murray steps down as Meath manager. Between Garrigan, Wall, Lally, Troy and now Murray leaving it really seems like the end of an era.
