Boylan wasn't shy about innovation but it's a totally different ball game nowadays. All the successful managers who have come through this decade have built hard-tackling teams that defend as a unit. For all the hullabaloo regarding Dublin, they still defend zonally, they might push up on kick-outs but as soon as the opposition is in their half they get 11 men behind the ball and go into coverage.

Watching our seniors and u21s this year, we've looked incapable of defending as a unit. To echo Hammer's comments, we've been cut open down the middle numerous times, we don't know when to step up and press the ball and we don't track the runners breaking through the 40. Management should appreciate the black card now as a factor so defending has to be a priority going into the league.

Did you see Dublin V DOnegal this year? They were like headless chickens defending and i'm pretty sure they will be far more defense minded next year making them harder to beat but easier to lose by less. Now their problem is they will have to prefect this in the league because they won't be playing anybody half decent in Leinster.

Ballinlough 0-7 St. James (Wexford) 1-1 at half time. Taken from the Ballinlough twitter account.

St. James haven't scored since the 12th minute either.
Hoping Ballinlough pull through. Think it's between them and Kiltale for club of the year.

    3 minutes left.
    Ballinlough 0-10 to 1-3 up.

FT: Ballinlough 0-12 St. James 1-3. Leinster final for them now!

Fair play to them. They'll play either Seán O'Mahony's of Louth or Eadestown of Kildare in the final. Could be a feisty one.

The other semi in the club IHC between Coill Dubh of Kildare and Mullinavat of Kilkenny is today. Kiltale play the winner in the final.

Been a fantastic year for both Ballinlough and Kiltale. Hope they can win their finals against whoever they end up playing.

Meanwhile, Dunderry are up against Bennetsbridge of Kilkenny in the Leinster JHC and are being beaten by 7 points to no score.

    Dunderry 0-2 Bennetsbridge 0-10
Wolfe Tones (Longford) 3-5 St. Patrick's, Stamullen 0-5

FT: Dunderry 0-4 Bennetsbridge (Kilkenny) 4-25. Some hammering there.
FT: Wolfe Tones (Longford) 4-10 St. Patrick's, Stamullen 0-11.

Kiltale will play Mullinavat of Kilkenny in the club IHC final and Ballinlough will play Sean O'Mahonys of Louth in the club IFC final.

Meath v Louth Club IFC final as SOM beat Eadestown 0-10 to 1-6. Final is in 2 weeks time.

St. Pats were beaten 4-10 to 11 points in the Leinster Special JHC.

Ballinlough travel to Louth in the final. should have won by more today, 1-3 from Jimmys very poor return and Peadar did not have his shooting boots on today.

    Up the Lough :)

Final in Drogheda RL? May head up to it. Would be great to see a Meath team beat a Louth team in a Leinster final again ;)

I would take a Ballinlough win with a scrambled over the line goal

What part of Louth are SOM from?

Just googled, Dundalk, they will probably make us travel all the way to Dundalk so.

O'Mahonys played their semi-final in the Clan na Gael pitch in Dundalk which seems like the likely venue. Other than that then maybe they could play the final in Darver?

Yet another Ratoath semi final loss by a point :mad::mad:

Kiltale are seriously up against it in the Leinster final, as they face Mullinavat of Kilkenny. Mullinavat were the favourites to win the Kilkenny Intermediate championship this year and they duly obliged. They are a team on the up and should more than hold their own in the Senior Championship next year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,139 ✭✭✭westernfrenzy

It will be really hard for Kiltale. Trying to beat any Kilkenny club in hurling isn't easy at all. Hopefully they do well against them in the final.

The Kilkenny Intermediate Championship is of a very high standard.
You never know though, they already surprised Shamrocks of Wexford, best of luck to Kiltale in the final

why is a neutral venue not called for in the football?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,411 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Think the Kilkenny Intermediate champions have won the Leinster IHC 4 times in the last 5 years with MLR (who won the Leinster SHC last year) the only non Kilkenny team to win it in that time.
But Kilmessan did beat the Kilkenny champs back in the 2007 final.

I imagine they give home advantage to boost the crowd attendances.

Ballinlough named as joint winner of Club of the Year

Work on Dunganny is apparently supposed to begin by the end of the month as a contractor has been appointed

    http://www.hoganstand.com/meath/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=227830

good to see swift action is being taken after getting the grant a few weeks ago. Anyone know exactly what is left to be built at Dunganny? I'm assuming some sort of clubhouse with indoor gym/training facilities and admin offices for the county board?

Ratoath v Navan O'Mahony's in the U21 final.
Ratoath beat Dunboyne 1-5 to 5 points on an atrocious night in Ashbourne.

Is Bobby O'Brien ready for the step up to senior football? Like to see him get a shot at centre-half during the O'Byrne cup if he's eligible, surprised he hasn't seen league action yet. I'd have him at 11 and move McMahon or Carroll inside. I feel we just don't score enough points from distance at the moment.
