Electric Hob Plate Burned Out.

Just noticed this morning that the large hob plate has a wide red ring of heat on it this morning.

It's a bog standard hob plate with the the centre red spot.

Can I assume it's just a matter of replacing it and that the wiring etc is fine, unless I see any burn marks etc on cable when I open it up.

once it has the same rating as the old hob it should be fine. Check to see if its wired in 2.5 or 6sq. Alot of new hobs come with low ratings and are wired in 2.5, personally i always use 6sq just encase...

Just to reduce possible confusion, Diggerdunne is talking about the 6 square as in the supply cable to the cooker hob from the MCB board, rather than the internal wiring which will be 2.5 at most, and has heat resistant insulation on it.

It's 6sq all right, these replacement units ain't cheap, after a quick search £54 for one.



Anyone know where I might pick up a cheapie, it's an old cooker so not too pushed.

The 4 plate hob is an idea I've being toying with, funny u should throw that in.:D

Could I fit one of these to a standalone 500mm base unit, I don't see any problem and wire it via the cooker wiring.

Would the cb need to be changed to a lower rating!!

The spares shop you listed seems to only do that 145mm size, I would need approx 180mm or 8"

think you need a 600 base unit for it
