Would that be passing over Cork/Munster first? Or would it be swinging in from the side?

Have posted alert for torrential rainfalls across most of Munster spreading into south Leinster this evening and overnight. Potential for 30-50 mms rain and thunder/lightning, spot flooding developing. Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Kilkenny, Wexford and surrounding counties likely to be affected. As I am heading out here on a sunny day and will probably be off forum until midnight your time, hopefully this thread will become the source for further updates.

    Thanks.

Why do these events always happen in the middle of the night. Ahhh. Any chance for Dublin area (coastal)? I guess if it's loud and long enough to be interesting it'll wake me up !

Silly me...got all excited when I spotted that burst approaching, thought I might actually have been the only one saw it forming. Looks pretty promising for the South East?

Just in time, the Shannon radar is broken

Precip almost disappears in the 18:00 and 18:15 frames. Hopefully it'll back working properly soon. Strangely the radar image is showing as if it's working, with the bright circle still there. Usually that disappears when it's down.

EDIT: it seems to be working ok again on the raintoday site, with just the 18:00 frame broken. 18:15 it is back in action.

Just been outside. Wind picking up. Getting foggy on the hills. Sky is extreamy heavy and dull. Warm. Humid. Feels exactly like July 25 1985. Uncanny.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

I see Cork Airport is reading 100% humidity
Don't pay attention to humidity measurements that often but that seems remarkable

As regards thunder, I don't see it for the South anyway
In fact I dont see much in the way of ppn at all, a couple of hours heavy rain is what I see

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,388 ✭✭✭gbee

It rained here, nothing special, looking at the RainToday, the bulk is passing to my East! :(

Met have also issued warning :
    Weather Warning

    Issued at 27 June 2012 - 18:14
    Rain Warning
Heavy rain will develop overnight and there will be some torrential and possibly thundery downpours. The heaviest of these falls will be in Munster, Leinster and Connacht. These falls may lead to localised flooding. Rainfall totals of 30 to 50 mm are likely but due to the thundery nature of the rain localised totals of up to 70mm are possible.

Valid from: 18:00 hours Wednesday, 27-Jun-2012

Valid to :12:00 hours Thursday, 28-Jun-2012

Last one from me as the match is on.
Nothing hugely significant showing on the radar
I'll go against Met Eireann thank you and suggest heavy rain for a few hours with little in the way of flooding and very little if any thunder:)

Lots of Twitter reports of flash flooding in Belfast. I've counted six rattles of thunder, only seen a couple of lightning flashes though

Su - I was going to post this earlier but you were the only person that mentioned this possibility yesterday - it wasn't mentioned on any of the forecasts. The local bbc forecast last night just mentioned the chance of a few showers but I knew to expect something more thanks to your post last night !

I've only heard one rumble of thunder - I want some more now!!
