    Hi all,

I'm a guy with basic wordpress knowledge (my largest site: dublinbees.org). A beekeeping buddy with zero tech skills has asked for help with designing & building a static site with just a page or two.

Leaving aside the idea that he might want to grow it in future, can anyone recommend a way to build a simple static site? It needs to be something he can maintain (I'll help him set it up). He should be able to choose his own domain name, and it should be fairly cheap or maybe he'd consider it being ad-supported.

    All ideas welcome!

Well he'd need a webhost to start. If he's only going to have 2 pages then a free one would be best.

For the actual web design then you could use wordpress, drupal, Joomla or a similar content management system. Plenty of tutorials on youtube on how to get it setup, but if you have a wordpress site yourself then you'll know what you're doing.

For a domain name, then you need to buy it off a domain name register site.

Google sites might work for him.

    Hi both,

Thanks! I was hoping to keep away from the complexity (for him) of Wordpress - was thinking there must be a free or cheap service on which I could create a couple of static pages using a basic editor. I like the idea of Google Sites but I'm finding it a bit user-unfriendly. Will persevere!

    Cheers, Simon

If you want simpler again, maybe Wix would suit?

Sites are Flash based though, so may not work on iOS devices.
