As the tittle suggests, I'm looking for a good reliable mechanic on the north county, preferably in or near to swords.
    Any recomendations?

Can highly recommend Anton in Autodoctor located in Feltrim Business Park. Loads of my work mates and neighbours use him and find him to be very good and won't rip you off.

    I have used the following:

Forrest Motors - Forrest Road - Ok a bit pricey
Charlie Mcgrane - Forrest Road - best of the lot
    Advance Pitstop - Main Street - $$$
Auto Doctor - on the way to Kinsealy ( 3 years ago - I remember he screwed something up)

The best of these, by a long way, in terms of price and in terms of quality of work is McGrane's.

Another vote for McGrane's here. I've been to them three times so far. Twice with different noises coming from the car and an opportunity for them to rip me off if they were that way inclined: first one was squeeking breaks - could easily have told me the pads/shoes required replacing as I thought they were due, but it turned out to be just dirt/gravel after recent flooding and they told me there was plenty of milage left on them. Second one about a year later was a squeeking/rubbing sound when I turned left; they couldn't find the source at first but it turned out to be rust and dirt on the drum. The last time was for some post-NCT work & each time they couldn't have been more sound and got the job sorted out for very reasonable money.

Used Anton many times and the guy is pretty awesome, has never ripped me off, always given me a great price and any work he's done has never gone wrong again since. And the guy is built like a brick shithouse!!

God it's amazing how people's opinions differ! I used Charlie McGrane once (he was recommended to me) and I swear - never again!!! The guy is an....well, I won't say on a public forum!

I used Declan Mongey for a time and after he closed, just used Advance after McGrane f**ked me around. The lads in there are sound.

I'm very happy with Robbie McGlynn an indy across from the boys school.

Good to deal with and has plenty of time to talk to people about what is wrong, and gets things fixed.

    Your're quite right. I wouldn't touch Advance with a FIAT :)

LN Motors in Feltrim Business Park are excellent. Needed two small bits done for retest for NCT-got quoted EXTORTIONATE price from Atlas with poor customer service. One call to LN Motors-fantastic friendly service, very prompt and very reasonable price. Would highly recommend.

The reason I decided to post on a year old thread is that I found myself looking at this thread for guidance last week. I found a service I was very happy with and thought I would share it. New member to boards but such was how strongly i felt about this.
Dealing with rude, unhelpful mechanics for last few months and feel a good service should be rewarded with a bit of good publicity. That's all :)

I've undeleted your post, it did seem a bit like shilling as a first post though.
As this thread is a year old I'll close it - as a general rule here on Boards it's not good to revive threads that are more than six months old.
