A general thread for everything to do with the above - no nastiness please - not even from me. :D

This cartoon by "NW" was inspired by CIE's habit of trying to defy the laws of nature by giving 'special permission' for certain operations.

Am I just taking to myself (and steamengine) there must be more of you out there with something worth posting?
Anyway, here's a nice print of Hill of Howth #9 by Jim Kilroy, from about thirty years ago - OMG!! :D

And two very fine paintings by Northern Ireland artist - Norman Whitla - of a train and unidentified station on the Ballymena & Larne NG railway. Note the subtle changes to the station in the two pics. More of Norman Whitla's work here: http://www.heritagehousearts.com

My eldest son loves that Mr.Bean episode. As for me, I'm transported straight back to late nights spent at Holyhead, Crewe - bacon butties, and BR pies etc. etc. in the 1970s. I really must stop and do some work now but here's a really classy GSWR (overprinted litho poster) to finish with - a number of them turned up in a CIE skip down the North Wall in the early 1980s. I paid over 100 pounds for my one but you can have this one for €1,075 from http://www.niallmullenantiques.com/art-deco-art-antiques/

100-ish quid was rather a bargain for a quality poster. Nice going.

Beyond belief how they could end up in a skip.

This one is a classic :D

The Arabic script reads "The country is advancing as rapidly as a train"

FG will have to use one of their trains for the next election.

How many of you remember the inspired genius who decided that when 201 "River Shannon" was named in June 1994, that the nameplate should be displayed at bottom of the bodywork? Just above the wheels - I kid you not! NW's cartoon captures the moment as assorted anoraks snap away contentedly. :D

Lucky NW left the country when he did as his cartoons were becoming a little controversial. :D

topnotch - I think the image you used would have been ideal for FF's last election literature.

For Inda's next campaign I think a frame from the scrappage of the 80 class might do well, if one can't be got of Mark 3s, 2700s and 8200s getting the snip :D After all, anything worth having in Ireland will be razor blades for the Troika by then.

    CIE%2BPOSTER.jpg

A batch of these posters were sold at the IRRS library during the early 1980s for £2.00 each - I was late that night. :(

For those with deep pockets, the poster occasionally turns up at Gallery 29 on Molesworth Street but not for £2.00!

Reminds me of the Michael Schwab style amtrak posters.

A nice GSR poster that I hadn't come across until recently - surprisingly not by Paul Henry but certainly in his style.

I like this Art Deco style poster of an E636 Class loco.

A couple of nice GSR posters here from Whyte's 21st April sale. Deep pockets will be needed for these. :)

Another nice pic here from Ross's Irish Auction on June 13th next and it carries a very low estimate of £200 – £300. Suit any narrow gauge enthusiast here?

Assuming that's Kells, Ballymena & Larne?
Can't be Kells (GS&WR Co. Kerry) or Kells (GNRI Co Meath)

Sorry for dragging up this ancient thread but makes more sense to use than starting a new one. I'll be adding more over the next day or so if thread remains open. :)

    Roche%252C%2BTom.jpg

461 passing the Royal Irish Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire - a postcard of a painting by Tom Roche. Self published by the artist.

There's something strange about the way that he has painted the carriages as they appear to be being dragged along bogie-less. Nice pic apart from that. Original postcard is for sale on eBay.

Also I do not recall 461 leading an RPSI train into the bay platform.
The DART era signals look well, even if the OHLE is invisible.

    A case of artistic licence.

Carlisle Pier, Dun Laoghaire: A far better painting by the same artist and the location meant that he didn't have to show the carriage bogies. Sold at James Adams on 22/11/2017 for €2,800.
