I'm not sure how you can say Pogba is not good on the ball, I would be of the opinion that that's one of his strong points! Not that it really matters at the end of the day seeing as even if he stays he won't be first choice.

He's great at striking the ball - shooting and long passes and the like. But his first touch is woeful imo.

We missed a trick with Axel Witsel. Went for peanuts to Benfica from Standard Liege last summer and if you wanted him now you'd be talking ~£20M.

    injury table

    So which is it..

    Are we unlucky?
    Is the pre-season not right?
Are the medical staff doing a poor job?
Do we have too many injury prone players?

or the most likely reason, a combination of all four?

    Seen this on goal.com
His flat is gone up for rent so he's going somewhere! :P
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa has fuelled speculation surrounding a possible move to the Premier League after putting his flat up for rent.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a transfer to Manchester United, who have in fact been trailing the BVB player for some time now, as Goal.com first revealed in April.

A deal looked increasingly likely after Sir Alex Ferguson travelled to Berlin to watch the Japanese in the DFB Pokal final, where the Dortmund man scored one and set-up another.

The player's agent has also confirmed talks with the Scot have taken place, while Kagawa himself said that he would love to play in the Premier League.

In a new revelation, Kagawa has put his flat up for rent online. There is yet to be any interest but it is expected to be resolved soon, paving the way for a move to England.

United's current top Asian import, Ji-Sung Park, has been quoted saying that the attacking midfielder would do well at the club.

    This just in:

Shinji Kagawa has been spotted in a local restaurant this evening. He ordered the steak medium rare. Danny Welbeck is known to also like his steak prepared this way THEREFORE HE IS MOVING TO THE MANCHESTER UNITED.

Jesus, I hope he has enough for a deposit on a place in Manchester, that's always annoying when you want to move but you can't afford the damned deposit!

Hope Utd can give him an advance on his wages to sort him out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,177 ✭✭✭TheTownie

Bild are reporting Utd have agreed personal terms with Kagawa, claiming its ~£100K/week incl. image rights. Apparently he will fly into Manchester in the next few days to formalise the deal.

    Daily Fail also reporting the deal is close to completion and attribute the following quote to Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke;
"both sides want to conclude the deal"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,949 ✭✭✭Samich

Shinji Kagawa is very close to fulfilling his dream of playing in the English Premier League. Kagawa’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United is entering the home stretch. As far as Manchester United is concerned, the clubs have in essence agreed on transfer terms.

Borussia Dortmund Director of Sport Michael Zorc, who does not normally comment on personnel deals until they are completed even if signatures have already been made, has not confirmed completion of the deal to kicker. Zorc stated “The transfer is not yet complete.”

Reliable sources in England (isn’t that an oxymoron?) are already reporting solid deal numbers. BVB would get an up-front transfer fee of around 15 million Euros. This can be increased by another seven-figure sum if certain “success standards” are reached by Manchester United. By the reported numbers, Borussia Dortmund is making a profit of around 4300 percent on Kagawa. Just two years ago, the Westfalen club paid just a “training compensation” of just 350,000 Euros for Kagawa.

49 Bundesliga appearances, 21 goals and 12 assists later, the Japanese attacking midfielder will fulfill his dream of playing in the Premier League. Kagawa will sign a long-term contract in Manchester. His contract in Dortmund would have expired after next season (June 2013).

It was a very difficult choice between the european champions, premier league champions and the charity shield winners. The charity shield is a very important competion I want to play in. Manchester united didn't qualify for it this year, thats why despite their great history I turned them down first.

Powell could well be the next Gerrard, but he could also be the next no one. At that age its hard to tell. Would love to see us buy him then loan him out for a bit.
And Diame, no. Apparently he was meant to be going to Liverpool, but thats broken down.

You can't include Fletcher. And Anderson is a liability defensively (although he is good at tackling when he tries). But we do have Jones as back-up for Carrick, so that's two defensive minded midfielders. And Pogba too as you say, if he stays.

The problem is none of them are good enough on the ball. So they are part of the reason why the team struggles to hold onto and use possession. So an upgrade in that position for the first team would be a big help. Then Carrick and Jones could be there for back-up and Pogba could fùck off.

A replacement for Scholes is needed too. My preference would be somebody young and cheepish who could fight with Cleverley for the spot in the first team. Powell sounds good for that.

Pogba is far from defensive player. At least that was his weak point playing for reserves. He used his strength to good extent but he is not defensive player at all. He is attacking player with quick feet and trickery. He did play deeper very few times but no where near good enough even at reserves level.

Watched him for Belgium against Montenegro. He was class. His pass that led to the first goal was very good, he has everything in his locker. Like you said team crying for a CM, he was a big miss.

Hopefully some official news will appear today for Kagawa. It will be interesting to see if the actual fee is released too, as anything from £12M plus peformance related instalments to a straight £20M fee. Either way it looks like United finally got their 'value for money' signing in midfield. Hopefully its just the first.

There won't be anything "official" until the deal is done and medical completed etc. Isn't Kagawa in Japan for internationals? If so then there probably won't be any confirmed signing for quite a while.

Yep - WC qualifiers on June 3rd and 8th, so a good chance we won't hear anything until after then.

Really do hope we make a few early signings, don't want to be panicing in August, again.

i am hoping Powell turns out to be another chris smalling (in terms of development, ability and presence in the team, no positional) and turns into a class player who will be an england international within 12 months of signing for us.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,352 ✭✭✭daveyboy_1ie

Powell is someone that has me a little excited too, he looks like someone who has huge potential alright. All things considered Smalling was a bargain at £10M, he really is a class player.

Really do hope we make a few early signings, don't want to be panicing in August, again.

Exactly, was expecting a little more urgency this summer and I am surprised nothing has happened as of yet. Maybe none of Fergie's first choice targets are playing in the Euro's.

I'm surprised I've heard nothing of Clyne, that was all but done in January if the papers were to be believed but there's been nothing said about it so far since the end of the season.

Whatever happened to us being linked to Steven Defour? The way people were talking, he was practically a United player.

Think we are stocked up on Wingers .

Maybe someone thinks he can play in a different position??

It does amaze me sometimes that players get completely pigeon holed into certain very well defined positions.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭G.K.

It's Adam Johnson, not Lucas Moura. He's a winger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,329 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

    He is young.

    He is english.

    He is versatile.

I'd be shocked if Fergie wasn't interested.

Very talented player, but finding life very difficult at City (as anyone with half a brain could have told him). Apparently doesn't help himself with his attitude though.

    G.K. wrote: »

Just like Henry, Ronaldo, Bale, Rooney, Giggs.........etc etc
Lots and lots of players can play in various positions, to pigeon hole a player is foolish business.
To be honest, I think Johnson would be a great acquisition for any team. His growth as a player has been totally stunted at City, he's probably on crazy wages though and might be happy enough with his lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,329 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

If Adam Johnson was available at a decent price, I actually can't think of a single premiership team that wouldn't be interested in him - maybe Chelsea with Hazard, Marin, De Bryune (sp), Maluda and Sturidge all capable of playing that wing position - but even then they'd surely consider it.

The guy is clearly very talented.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 32,865 ✭✭✭✭MagicMarker

The guy would be a moron to come to Utd, all he'd be doing is swapping one bench for another. He needs to go somewhere where he'll be in the starting XI week in week out.

The day that united start buying man city rejects will be a dark day in the history of the club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,329 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

    Ahead of who ?

I don't see him being first choice next season, but at the same time I would be surprised if we loaned him out unless he, himself, requested it as part of the move to United. Given he can seemingly play up front or off the front man (central midfield also mooted, maybe further down the line though) i reckon he could get game time as a 'number 10' after Rooney and, hopefully, Kagawa, and as 4th or 5th choice forward, depending on loans to other young players.

Replacing Berbatov and Owen with Kagawa and Powel.
