    Hi Folks

Im looking for some advice on northern italy.

Myself and my girlfriend will be spending a week in Tuscany and then would like to head up towards Milan and the lakes for a week.

I am looking for some advice on this region i.e. which lake to stay at? Things to do, getting around. If anyone has spent anytime around this part would you have any advice? We will just spend 1 night in Milan at the end.
It might also be worthwhile going to Venice for a couple of nights.

    Any information appreciated.

    Thanks.

We have been to Pisa, Florence, Milan and Venice.

Milan city was great. The cathedral was super. One can
walk up to its roof and literally walk on this roof. There is
    a panorama of the area.
We visited Lake Como by train. It was super.
It's north of Milan towards Lugano.

We have been to Venice at least six times. It is great.
Those gondolas, those canals, the absence of cars
were a "new" experience for us.
When it rained we went to the churches and its historical prison.
After the rain we explored the city.

We never stayed in "Venice proper". We stayed in Jessolo
and commuted daily by ferry to Venice.
Once we had B/B in Verona and drove to Venice for a day
    trip. Parking is expensive.
There is a train service. We never used it.

Florence was super. Its cathedral and old town are super.
Its other churches and museums are popular with tourists.
There is a waiting list to see the painting "The last supper".

Tuscany is a popular tourist destination with Germans. Some
enthuse about having a friend with a holiday house in Tuscany
    and holidaying them there.

Pisa's leaning tower was great. Visitors can get a guided tour
of it. Car parking is free. In March there were many
    vacant parking spaces.
Pisa also has an interesting old town area.

The lakes are very beautiful and there are some nice wines such as valpolicella, bardolino and soave, and then there are the cities and towns that all worth seeing - Verona, Brescia, Padova (Padua) and so on. If you enjoy exploring mountainous regions I recommend the Dolomites and the Val d'Aosta.
