Cannot Edit account email address

Hi I posted about this problem a long time ago and it never got resolved. I have two email addresses hotmail and gmail. I want to switch to set gmail as the primary account. When I go to change it in my account details i get the message: "This email address is already in use" Is it possible to get this fixed?

Well the error message is what it says, somebody has used the email address before for another account on Boards.ie

To resolve it, change the email address on the other account to something else.
