8 Point gap just take it one week at a time we need to put in a good performance against bray Saturday still all to play for just need to get consistency between now and the end of the season. Dundalk have Sligo who will be gunning for points against them, just need to keep on going once we keep the pressure on they will slip at some stage. And we still have them at the cross if we can narrow that gap down a few points before that game then it'll be the decider whether dundalk walk it or it comes down to the wire

Pity, but at least it gives us a bit of a cushion in second. Dundalk can afford to lose in Tallaght and the Cross and probably draw elsewhere and still win it. We could realistically put it to the last day, if those two losses happen and we win all our matches. With Dundalk at home to Bray at the end, they'd still win it comfortably, but it'd be nice to at least have a bit of final day excitement again.

In fairness to City, we're on course to match our points total from last year (72), which would win the league most years (eight from the previous ten, I believe, adjusting for a 33 game season). Dundalk have just been that bit better, but a points total in the 70s won't always be runners-up.

Disappointing, but sure, still Europe and the cup to play for. If we finish in second and followed it up with a win in Lansdowne, it wouldn't be too bad.

Good point about the points total. Also if you take out the head to head against Dundalk we are not that far off winning the league. Possible need to find 2 or 3 players for next year to bolster the squad. Madly seems to be getting better with age if we played 2 up front and had some one with him who pitched I with 12 to 15 goals a season plus billy scoring the same we should have enough going forward. We need a left back and possible right midfield imo wind us the league next year.

So which do we prefer, because one of these will happen

    1. Guard of honour for Dundalk as champions when they come to the Cross
    2. They win the league at the Cross.

Ill go for 1. I think if they won it at the Cross there would be murder.

Absolutely No.1, but I wouldn't be suprised if its No.2. Don't think there would be murder, theres so many Guards at TC these days a small army wouldn't be able to invade. I was laughing at the Pats cup game actually, they had what seemed like 15 riot cops up to watch over about 60 Pats fans haha. Loads of OT for the lads.

Thast that newish sergeant at play. Got to make sure all the drunken "soccer" fans are kept in check.

There was 5 Guards in with the 13 Pats fans last Monday, I felt sorry for the Pats fans after travelling all the way down to be treated like that. The problem with country guards are they havn't a clue how to handle a football crowd.

Poor draw, really needed to win, no ground lost as Sligo got a draw and shams drew too.

Need to chip away at the gap before we play Dundalk.
Derry away Friday would love a cup final

Should have done that yesterday, league is gone. Secure second, win the cup is the very best we can hope for this season.

Yup. The league was almost gone before that, but had we won and closed the gap to six, it may have been possible, especially considering Dundalk have to play the apparent world beaters Limerick away. The way Limerick are playing, you couldn't rule them out of taking points off them. (Yes, I do realise that that is still a rather large straw being clutched!) :pac:

Sadly though, when you're so far behind, you just can't drop points against teams like Bray and expect to maintain a title challenge. Just be grateful that nobody gained any ground on us either I suppose.

The league was gone when we lost to Limerick at the Cross.

Still though, finishing second for the second year in a row and securing European football again would still represent an excellent season.

Don't want to get too excited about a cup run though as I don't want to jinx it.... :o

Just need to focus on the Derry game Friday, hope a good few make the trip up, going to be a tricky game as Derry really seem to topple teams in the cup. A draw would be a decent result in this game can't see us losing

1-1. Happy with that. Should take them at home.

Glad I got to see that tonight.

That was one of the best goals ever scored in Turners Cross. Its tough being a football fan at times, lots of downs compared to the ups, but that goal tonight reminds us all why we do it. What a beautiful game.

    What a goal.

Was worth the fee alone. 3rd goal was nice move and finish too.

Less than 1,200 at the match really disappointing turn out. Never understood why people just don't want to watch the cup matches especially when its a all prem clash for a place in the semi's

Given a child ticket for my €15 at the hut.

Wouldn't trust the attendance figure at all.

    Classic Cup fiddling.

Yeah many times i've been at the cross and the attendence seems to always look like a lot more than what they announce

Derry home Friday. Thoughts another routine victory

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,527 ✭✭✭Paz-CCFC

If anyone missed it, our allocation for the Cup semi-final is going on sale this week from the club shop.

    Wednesday: Club members
Thursday: Club members and ST holders
Friday: Club members and ST holders (until 2 pm)
Friday night: General sale (from 6.10 at the Derry match)

Open from 11am and extended hours until 7pm Wednesday and Thursday.

Good to see the members, ST holders and match-going fans being looked after first. Though we mightn't sell out, it's still a bit of peace of mind to get the ticket early. Trophy deciders aside, it'll probably be our biggest away crowd since Limerick in 2010 or Bohs in 2007.

Derry got off to a winning start under their new manager. A tight game I'd imagine but approached with the right mentality City should win. Just hope we don't pick up any injuries ahead of the cup semi the following week.

It should be as routine as the victory against Limerick a few weeks ago.

    Oh wait

I had a buddy saying over the weekend that all we need is Dundalk to lose to Limerick and Shamrock Rovers before coming down here to have a chance. I genuinely love that kind of optimism but its lost on me after hearbreak after heartbreak.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,748 ✭✭✭Worztron

I'm not overly bothered about the league now - I just hope we don't drop to 3rd and hope we win a cup.

All we can do is win our games. Dundalk have Lims away which will be a tough game for us we just need the 3 points. And then rool on Bray can't wait

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 8,576 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wilberto

When I calculated how the remaining fixtures were going to go recently, I arrived at the conclusion that the best we can "realistically" achieve is to finish two points behind Dundalk. That's giving both ourselves, and Limerick, a win against them.

The league is over. I say we rest a few lads so they're fresher for the Quarter Final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,431 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

    Semi final :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,527 ✭✭✭Paz-CCFC

The Derry match is Friday, the semi-final is Sunday week. That 9 days is plenty of time for players to recover. If we rest them for this one, then they'll have gone nearly three weeks without playing since our last game was over a week ago. If anyone has any knocks or anything, then fair enough. But if they're otherwise fit, then there's absolutely no need for them to be taking a break. They're not made of glass. If you're too afraid to play a player due to potential injuries, then they shouldn't be signed in the first place.

  • Registered Users Posts: 126 ✭✭hman231

Cork City is Ireland biggest club every game is a game that we want to win. Derry Friday is no different I want a big performance from all the lads and a good win which we are capable of resting players for the cup game would be a mistake.
Derry will be a tough nut though especially after them beating Rovers they will be coming down with confidence

I know our initial allocation was 700, I was thinking we would be doing very well to get 600 up there but there must be a big demand for tickets if ye sent down more.

    Brutal!

Play like that next week and Bray will beat us.

No effort or anything. An awful game.

They better give us a cup final as a reward for sitting through that rubbish.

City gotta hang on for another 3 mins, despite Dan Murray's best efforts!
