Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My daughter is hopefully getting an IPod touch for her birthday. I'm just wondering is there a new one due out or is the 4th generation the one to get? Will the 8mb be enough. I reckon she will mostly want it for Apps. Are they the same price everywhere? Best place to buy? thanks.:D

Buyers guide on mac rumours is best place to check for latest rumours on releases of new apple hardware http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/

They are usually the same price everywhere
    Check Argos, xtravision, apple.ie, pixmania.ie

Get a good case for it as the screens break very very very easily on the 4th generation

Thanks, we already have an ipad here, I'm a traitor though and have the Galaxy S2.

Thanks will get a case. Any recommendations?

Also will the 8mb by enough? Can't see her downloading loads of music on to it.

Where did you pick up that nugget? I had an iTouch G2 and am now on a G4, the screen is as robust as the earlier model, not a scratch on it even though I carry it around in a pocket with no protector covering the screen.

Just giving my personal opinion from doing repairs the last 2 years
I get at least 2 calls a day from parents with broken 4th gens.
It's definitely not as robust as the 2nd/3rd gen, the glass is way thinner, if the ipod is dropped the metal corners dent easily and force the glass to break, the plastic bezel and depth of glass on the 2nd/3rd gen seems to help them survive a fall better than the 4th.
I know the 4th gen has become extremely popular with children though and they are not as careful as adults.
    I'm not talking scratch, I'm talking breaking/cracking.
The screens are also a lot more difficult to repair and costs more so I'd always advice anyone buying for a child to buy a good case

Daughter (12) has the 4 and no issue as of yet touch wood. If its not dropped, it's fine. That said, Cathal's advice is solid IMO.

I'd echo CathalDublin's observations here. Almost every repair call I get is for the broken screen replacement on the ipod touch 4g. Go for either the last 3rd gen touch or make sure you get a good wallet type case for the 4th gen.

If u check out the littlewoods discount codes on the bargin alerts u can use a 20% voucher for a iPod, that's what I did for the cheapest price....

Also for those of u recommending cases, I have a rubber back she'll on my 4th gen, should I get a screen cover also?

    @creativedrinker
Yes, replace the rubber one with an all in one wallet type that flips and covers the front.
If you drop it once, it will crack the glass. I charge 80 euro to replace them and i believe that's probably the cheapest in ireland so unless you can afford that, get the 10 euro wallet.
