Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We did that same thing, if you stay in Stockholm be prepared to pay a **** load. What we di was stay in some small town near where Ryanair fly into, had a class time there.

The next day we got a train into Stockholm couldn't find anywhere that was less than 170. So we got chatting to these people who told us to get the boat to Finland.

So we did that cost around ten euro each, we had a class cabin. On the boat everything is duty free so we stocked up on some 60% vodka got hammered. On the boat they have bars, casinos and nightclubs.

It takes 24hrs there and back, you dont even get off in Finland.

I'm living in Sweden right now but can't go into detail right now, will reply properly tomorrow. Vasa is worth visiting, a ship from 100s of years ago that sunk but was preserved underwater. There is also a free tour of the city provided by very good guides (tips welcome!). Oh and yeah, it's a pricey town but I think it's a great city and worth the visit. :)

How long are you lads going away for? Are you into museums, history, architecture or just boozing?

Firstly Stockholm has five airports. They are: Arlanda, Bromma, Skavsta, Västerås & Barkarby. Arlanda is the biggest airport the one to go for as both Aer Lingus & SAS fly directly from Dublin plus there is a train that connects you to the city centre from the airport. Ryanair fly into Skavsta but it's over an hour away from Stockholm city centre and the bus costs 150 krona (€18) one way.

There are loads of amazing buildings and cool museums in Stockholm (The Vasa Museum being my absolute favorite) but since you are a bunch of 25 year old guys I'm guessing you are mostly going for the night life?

If you are strictly boozing then Stockholm is VERY expensive. Expect to pay around 50 Krona for glass of local beer which is approximately €6 and WAY more in a club (I paid €12 for a bottle of Carlsberg in Berns Nightclub once upon a time). Also note that most clubs have a very strict entrance policy and they always seem to ask for ID IF you are lucky enough to get past the velvet rope, as some clubs are over 23's. The queues are mental too.

The Stureplan district is the best for nightlife but some clubs charge over 150 krona entrance at the weekend which is around €18. Södermalm is a cheaper area and attracts mainly students but it's still not that cheap so expect to pay the equivalent of Dublin prices there.

BTW stay away from the Ice Bar in the Nordic Sea Hotel on Vasaplan as it's around 150 Krona (€18) entrance and a shot of vodka will cost you around 85 krona (€10)

On the flip side of all that most Swedes drink at home first before they go out so you and the lads could stock up on booze in Systembolaget and drink in your hostel or hotel before you hit the town.

Lastly the women are absolutely PHENOMENAL and all speak fluent English and are very friendly and approachable. If any of you lads are single then you are not going to want to come back to Ireland after being over there, trust me on that ;)

    Hey, I'm just back actually!

We used Hotwire to get a cheap hotel in Alvsjo, which is on the commuter train route. Weren't in the centre, but it was quick enough getting in and out from Centralen. Getting a day ticket cuts down on transport costs, or if you just want one journey you can use the train ticket on the tram as well (within a reasonable time-frame). Buy tickets in the newsagents in the stations, not at the desks.

Stuff to do: we thought the Nobel Museum was great, along with the Armoury museum (think royal weapons, outfits and carriages). Gamla Stan is nice to walk around. We went to the Natural History Museum too (on the t-bana line) and liked it, although it wasn't as well up on english translations as the other museums.

We didn't go out much because, as mentioned, it's pretty expensive.

We flew in to Skavsta with Ryanair. Try to get the public airport bus to the centre if you can, much cheaper than the Flygbussana.

Flew out of Arlanda because we were going on to Helsinki.

I just wanted to interject with the following. Sweden isn't as expensive as people say. I think the reason people think that is because people are used to going to cheap countries for holidays, but these are the prices in well developed countries.

Stockholm is on par with Dublin, so I especially don't know why Dubs are always griping about the price, however eating out is half the price of Dublin for sure.

A handy tip for getting good accommodation, look at Stockholm suburbs, most suburbs have a tube station within a couple minutes walk and you can be in town within 15 minutes. Tubes (Underground) are super frequent also, that's what I do when I go to Stockholm.

Just a little heads up people are generally very self absorbed in Stockholm, don't expect any curtsey as a tourist you may have a better experience, but I just find them very cold compared to Irish people.

Reasons to visit Stockholm: It's gorgeous to look at landscapes and forests are just amaze balls! It's quick and easy to get around and good eats!

BTW No cash on buses cards only!

    Yes yes everyone is gorgeous......

Stockholm is beautiful any time of year but Island hopping in the summer with the gorgeous people is a delight.
