Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You'd better start figuring out ways to make it better Keith since you'll be reunified with the Republic long before that time.

On the new leader thing, can we just pick someone at random and use peer pressure and internet sarcasm to humiliate them into becoming an Irish hero? I nominate cloptrop, I like the cut of his jib.
People up here are intelligent enough to not throw ourselves under the bus as they say. Lets be realistic.

What's the problem with cloptrop for new Irish Hero? He may have that rough diamond charisma and Russell Crowe beardline but I can't see him throwing anyone under a bus.

    Artists impression.

    I prefer Colm Meaney's version

The idea of an all powerful hero is bull**** - it feeds into this 'saviour will come' nonsense. It's a subtle message that we need a leader to deliver us from oppression/evil.
The lure of the "strong leader" is a powerful one. In Italy after World War I, the country was massively in debt, and the Fascist Manifesto of 1919 didn't contain anything obviously radical at all. It contained such "modern" ideas as a 40-hour work week, universal suffrage, and the rights of workers to join a union.

It also talked about letting "experts" run the country according to their expertise: technocrats, in other words. I won't go in to the details, I'll just say that the flexible definition of "expert" had a lot to do with what creating we now understand as Fascism. A country needs a strong leader in control, so that infrastructure is built and the trains run on time ... right?

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
    Wherever you happen to be
    They bring it to you—free.

Be realistic about it. I have noticed on here a lot of people like discussing the problems but not a lot of people seem to be doing anything about it or trying.
