    Hi,
    Thinking of upgrading my system to store more stuff, and came across this on Komplett

    Seagate 3TB 3.5" SATA-600 7200rpm 64MB....€169

    Anyone know of any major drawbacks with these drives apart from the obvious "all yer eggs in one basket" problem.....I think Western Digital have one also. Will I need additional cooling assuming my current system has large fans and good airflow. I know larger data volumes does not necessarily correlate with more heat. Anyone have any experience of these drives?

    Seagate only have a single year's warranty.

    It's doubtful that you'd need extra cooling. HDDs do get a bit hot but really only if there's a load of them that are running continuously. Extra platters usually does correlate with more heat and it's likely that there's quite a few in that drive. Still not something that I'd be overly concerned about though.

    There can be problems with some machines recognising the full 3TB, some will only recognise 2.2TB. It can depend on OS 32 or 64 bit, BIOS etc. Have a look here:
