    Hi I am making an App and have been told to patent it immediately.Should I just start in Ireland or EU or US or worldwide?
    If i start in Ireland and it goes online,can someone try getting the rights in the US?

    Who told you to do this? Do they really know your situation? Do you know what you want to patent? You cannot patent an app.

    The first thing you will need to do is raise five or ten grand to get an Irish patent. You then have 12 months' protection worldwide, which gives you time to decide to file in all these other countries.

    Expect to spend 5 or 10 grand per territory you want patents for.

    I have an idea for a website/app myself and was looking into what I would need to do to protect it if I actually got to build it, and I think a copyright is what you get for computer programs etc, not a patent.

    Does that sound more correct?

    Do they offer any real protection?
