Can anyone clarify the pronunciation of Mumhan(munster) and carthanais(charities)? I think I'm saying them wrong :pac:

Edit: Is it carthanais or carthanachtaí?

I'd say 'eagraíochtaí carthanachta' (charitable organisations) personally: ag/ree/ock/tha car/hon/uck/tha

    Mumhan: Moon

How early would yas think it is acceptable to bring in the modh coinníolach? I have a para prepared where I talk about my parents jobs, how I have great respect for them and if I won the Lottery I would buy them a new house and pay their bills to show them my love. Cheesy as it comes, I know, but d'yas reckon it'd work? :p

yeaa bring it in as soon as ya can! my teacher made me put in cheesy stuff too cause she says that that'll make you stand out to the examiner, and (in the words of my teacher) make them go awwwh :L

Im trying to use the Modh Coinníollach in the general comhrá and was wondering how to say :''If I had the money''..........

Is it: ''Dá mbeadh an t-airgead agam....''

Tá sé: Dá mbéinn mar phríomhoide

modh coinníollach is always the possesive and briathar in one!

Bhuel....ag an ndeireadh chuir sé a lámh ar an 'recorder' agus ansin duirt mé....

'Gabh mo leithsceil a dhuine uasal ach mar fhocail scoir tá píosa béag greann agam duit.....'

Duirt sé 'Cinnte as go brach leat'

Agus ansin d'inis mé an joke.

Bhí sé ag gáire so bhí aoibh an gáire ar mo aghaidh :D

Tá súil agam go bhfaighfidh mé an 'A' anois le haghaidh an bhunúsacht.

I'm pretty sure they were correct in the first place. That's the way it's usually asked in school, 'i do príomhoide' so the answer should have 'i mo príomhoide' in it.

Tbh I wouldn't take any grammar advice from people on here as I've seen people on boards.ie deliberately give the wrong answer to put people off.

hiyakeano has said he/she is from a gaeltacht region though...but yeah, tbh i'd have said the original too. but i dont see why the other one is wrong - "if i were as principal".

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 2,503 Mod ✭✭✭✭dambarude

You should stick with the 'i mo'.

Doing my Irish Oral (OL) tomorrow, have most of the Sraith's well prepared (apart from number 12).

I've done the following, do you think i'd be ok for tomorrow?
    • General Stuff about Myself (name, age, DOB, where I was born, address)
    • Family (people in my family, brothers- names and ages, what my parents do, do I get on well with my brothers/parents, do my parents give me freedom)
    • Pastimes (mainly: Music, sport, Reading. Why are pastimes good)
    • Typical Day
    • What I did last weekend
    • School (name, do I like it, numbers of students/teachers, atmosphere, facilities, subjects, favourite subject, subject I don't like)
    • What I want to do after School (Law, traits needed to do Law, what you have to do, where i'm going to college, for how long)
    • My Area (describe, facilities, people, advantages)

I think that's basically it! The comhra is only 7 minutes long anyway so I don't know how much more they could want. I know my poems basically off by heart at this stage and have a couple of Sraith's that are extremely strong (Namely 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 18, 19, 20). Do you think i'll be ok? Should be on at about 12.00 pm tomorrow. Did about 6 hours study today and about 6 yesterday too! <3
