    Hi all.
I stumbled on this thread while looking to upgrade my monitor.
As a result, i'd love to go for the Catleap, but not sure about compatability of gfx card.
    This is my setup:
Dell 730x Case with FX Lights
    980x 6 Core Intel i7 overclocked to 4.25Ghz
    Corsair H70 Water Cooling
    12GB 2000Mhz DDR3 Ram
    64Gb SSD System Drive
    2 x 1Tb Storage Drives in Raid 0
    ATI 5970 (2 x 5950) overclocked to 850Mhz / 1100Mhz
    24x DVD-RW Drive
    Creative X-Fi Sound Card

Somewhere I read that the ATI 5970 won't work with the Catleap.
    Is this true?

    Thanks

Hmm of you get stung by import duties, then it is not such an bargain. 400eu ish. Then again you can buy dell ips 27inch for 550eu now.

Compared to this price I'm pretty happy http://store.apple.com/ie/product/MC007B/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ

Who ever buys that for that price, should be checked for mental illness in the first place....

But compared to dells 27 ips panel it does not look like a big bargain. ( when you get hit with customs )

Haha only crazy people buy apple products /run
Lost it when I saw a 2500E macbook recently that has integrated gfx.

Don't knock them till you see them! they really are amazing monitors, but they don't justify the cost, I'm happy with my dell monitors all the same :pac:

I've seen them, and I'll back shadow up, you would want to be checked for mental illness to be paying that much for that monitor!, better out there for same price.

I thought people were getting this catleap to the door for ~270 ?

A good few people do, its just that you do run the risk of high costing customs around the €70-€100 zone.

Well you would if you dont get hit by customs I'd guess

Some people appear to be getting stung by customs, hence the higher price.

yup, if you sneak by customs then you are on the ball with a good monitor for 280eu ish, but if customs sniff you out, it becomes around 350eu-400eu ish.

btw did all of the people were ordering from dream seller? so its a hit and miss by customs, not just a different seller?

No, this the one I went with http://www.ebay.ie/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320865591510#ht_19604wt_1163
and AFAIK i didn't get hit by customs but i wouldn't at all be surprised if i get letter from FedEx sometime soon! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

I got mine for 270. even with a 70e hit its still a bargain and 340 =! 400 anyway but catleap = u2711 with a chunk of change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭Osmosae

Yeh but then if you want a better stand thats a lump of extra money. The u2711 also has much more connectivity options, and the u2711 comes with a 3 year warranty.

The catleap is still a good deal, just not as good as i had thought if your coming to ~350 to the door. If you dont get stung by customs it's a bargain

Does anyone have any 1440P video samples to try out? I've got this one - http://red.cachefly.net/TimeScapes4K2560p.mp4 - but it's been heavily processed so it's not a great example.

    First of all...... Amazing!!!
Not one dead pixel and everythings so crisp.

For any of you that have one watch this on "Origional" its unreal!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D30a61m5byk

For some reason I was just expecting it to come in a plain cardboard box but it came boxed just as anything else you'd buy online :)
Few Pics for anyone who want to have a look!

    http://bit.ly/HDEUBs

Comparison to my old Dell IPS monitor.
    http://bit.ly/HzUJ6W
    http://bit.ly/IIxdoe

White levels are a lot better and and colours are slightly better on the catleap so I'm thrilled with it anyway!

For anyone who's interested here's the link to the one I bought
    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320865591510
They declared it as 80 USD on the invoice and it seemed to scoot through customs no problem! Happy Days :D

Would love to see that video on your monitor, even on my 1080p one I can't tell that I am not there in real life. :p

Did you ask them to mark that price? Should have been customs on that much though, maybe it was lucky!

    I'd like to see a 23/24 beside a 27 too, sort it out :p

I can't believe that 1080p now is sort ... Low end :D. Do you even need AA in games with such resolution lads? I don't even need fr 1080p, but interesting to hear about 1440p

I'll take a photo next to a 23" tomorrow when the lighting is better.

In the interim here's my temp. setup back in my old bedroom for the study break:

There IPS Monitors so they look near enough exactly the same whatever angle you look at them! They don't look any different straight on, when compared to that picture up above.

It's definitely got a bit of a lean to it. But I've removed the back silver arch so all set to get a new mount when I can afford one.

Can't get all the sticker gunk off the top right though! I've tried both olive oil and whiskey so far.

Try rubbing alcohol, I've been using it on everything since I bought it for cleaning thermal paste off CPUs, it's great stuff.

lads would a single 680 be able to run battlefield 3 at 60 fps(ultra settings) on one of these monitors?
Or would i need to go sli

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

It would depend on the resolution.

At it's native resolution of 2560x1440 I would say yes. It probably won't be rock solid at 67fps and might dip into the 50's and high 40's at times but it will run it. But you will have to disable most forms of AA. And Super-sampling AA is probably out the window at that resolution for real high end games. Maybe x2 if you are lucky.

I discovered a useful secondary purpose for the monitor while greasing the stabilizers on my keyboard ... up to full brightness on a white background makes it a handy worktop diffuse lamp :D

Just an update that should be important. I got a letter a few days ago that is a request from Fedex for Import Customs + taxes... :(

    its €43.

Bringing my sum total to €320. probably the best €320 ive spent on my PC to be fair though.

two of my friends are ordering these today, so when they arrive ill set up a 6990 + 6970 Trifire eyefinity 7680*1440 monster for ****s and giggles.

EDIT: and take a few pics for my epeen.

there are several variations of the monitor. Achivia, catleap, crossover, and a few lesser desirable brands.

monitors are arriving Monday I think, and I've exams on Tuesday, so it'll be Wednesday at the soonest, or NTMK will stick some up.

you mean besides being 27" S-IPS 2560*1440p resolution?

its the same panel used in the Dell u2711 and the Apple Cinema Display, the latter costing €1k+
