    Hi All

Im wondering if anyone can advise me on a couple of things. I have always wanted to work in a Maternity hospital as a midwife assistant or just helping generally with mothers and their new babies etc. I have currently applied to do a Pre-Nursing course (which im not sure is the correct route). and i have also applied to do a course to complete the Maternity Care support module.

Does anyone know if you can apply for jobs after completing the Maternity Care Support Module or do i need to study more. Also, is it necessary for me to do the pre-nursing course if i just want to assist on Maternity wards.

Any feedback or suggestions would be really appreciated.
    Thanks a mil

Would you consider becoming a Doula?

    Hi Lorraine,

the pre-nursing course will qualify you to work as a Health Care Assistant, which I presume includes maternity wards. The maternity modules would definitely be a plus in getting work. The course includes work experience so if you could get a place in a maternity ward it would definitely give you a taste of what the job entails.

I did the pre-nursing course but the maternity module wasn't available, (thinking about doing it now on it's own) and everyone in the class did work experience in nursing homes.

    Hi Cliona

Thanks for the below. Unfortuantley i wasnt offered a place in the pre-nursing course. I am hoping to still do the maternity care support module as this is what would interest me. Hopefully i will get something from doing this. Thanks again for your reply.

thanks crazy cat lady for your feedback. I have never thought of becoming a Doula but will look into it.

    Thanks for the help

    Lorraine
