Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

He stopped using Diame because he went to the ACN and seemed to decide to put James McArthy in that position and it worked out well.
Rodallega wasn't getting goals and wasn't putting in the work rate so he was dropped too.

Big difference between being linked to Real and Barca and ending iup at Wigan.
A good agent can get lots of players linked with big clubs.

well to be pedantic, he dropped his extra man in midfield and played a higher line. went with a 2 man central midfield (of which McCarthy was one) he wasn't the exclusive sitting midfielder. Basically they went to 3-4-3 and it clicked.

Diame and Rodellega did themselves no favours in terms of selection by making it obvious they were not signing new deals.

As for Rodellega not scoring any goals, none of the Wigan strikers have scored any goals really.

I stand by what I said, Diame is a good player. A specialist ball winner who would be happy to be a squad player aswell

The proviso would be that we also sign a long term partner for Lucas aswell. But i'd have no problem with Diame being deputy for Lucas.

Having watched him I think he is alot better than what we have in that position.

Maybe you rate Spearing higher than I do. I think he is poor, he wouldn't make any other PL team, He wouldn't make the majority of Championship teams.
He is a good player to have around as back up i.e 5/6games per season.

Diame would be an improvement IMO, although not a player that would be high on my list of targets. I'd imagine their theory would be to fill that position on a relatively low budget which would allow more strengthening in other areas.

I actually don't think Spearing is good either but then neither is Diame.
If he was that good he'd have forced his way in to the Wigan team again.
Just because he's a bosman doesn't make him cheap.
Joe Cole has cost the club an absolute fortune.

Which is why I put in about the workrate as well as goals

Also just cos Wigan changed their system doesn't mean that Diame couldn't have played too.

Backup player on 60k per week?

How do you know those would be his wages?

I'd offer him no more than 30/40K

If he doesn't want to play for Liverpool I won't lose any sleep.

When I say I wouldn't mind signing a player, I don't mean "at any cost."

Wigan are fighting relegation, its a case of all hands to the pump. Diame is probably talking to clubs on the continent since he came back from the ACN.

Not to be critical of your posts, but I wonder have you actually watched him play much? Bearing in mind he is not an eye catching player being a defensive midfielder and all.

Or do you base your assumption on the fact he is not currently in the Wigan first XI? Also you do realise he was a regular for the previous 2 seasons? he is not a bit part player, rather a key player who fell out of favour due to his contractual situation.

I've probably watched him every time he's played on Sky this season and highlight packages like MOTD.
Granted I don't look for a stream for their non televised games :p

Exactly, if the lad demands extortionate wages then he can hit the road.

But for a decent wage he would be excellent cover for Lucas, and if funds were lower this year it then allows us to redistribute spending to areas of the team that need greater finances.

Ah no thats fair enough, I don't mean to belittle your opinion, you've seen enough to make an opinion in fairness. I just think differently, for the right wages he'd be an astute addition provided there was another first XI midfielder on the way to partner Lucas.

Newcastle won't pay big wages for Bosmans, think it goes against their transfer policy these days.

But he'd be a really good signing for Newcastle aswell if they could get him.

Have a feeling PSG could raid Newcastle this summer for Cabaye or Ben Arfa, and Newcastle would probably sell too

Like how Mascherano was unable to force his way into the West Ham team?

Not saying Diame is anything like Mascherano, but sometimes not getting into a team (and often getting into a team) has very little to do with the player's actual quality.

As for Diame vs Spearing, it would be Diame everytime for me. Bigger, faster, stronger, with genuine bite in the tackle. He would not be on my own list of players that I would like to see at Liverpool, but he has shown enough in his 100+ games in England that he has some ability and that he looks to be a level or two above Spearing. I think in terms of general skills, workrate, heart, and determination that Spearing can match him, but the huge gulf in physical qualities means that Diame can make more out of the qualities they have in common than Spearing can.

There are rumours in the French media that Montpellier (if they sell Belhanda) and his old club Lille are interested in bringing him back to France.

Aquilani starting for Milan today. It's still not enough for him to make the 25 points things though is it?

Also the signing of Fiorentina's Montolivo for Milan has gone through officially.

I'm intrigued by what will happen to Alberto but at this stage i'm so f**king bored of the whole thing, i would just love someone to come out tomorrow morning and say what is going to happen, and that be the end of it.

No it's not enough. He will end up on 24.5 points. I am surprised they're starting him today. If I was Aquilani I wouldn't be exactly busting a gut for them.

What do you want to happen today ?

    Liverpool win (obviously)
    Arsenal win
    *Spurs win

*Then as much as it pains me I will then want Chelsea to win the CL for obvious reasons :P

    Bayern to win the CL

Liverpool win mainly so Niallo (I think) wins his bet with Willy.....although that will be a missed opportunity since he went for money and not soccer forum access.

Purely footballing reasons and what CL money could do/bring to Spurs at the detriment of LFC

If Chelsea beat Blackburn today it doesn't matter what pool do, Niallo will lose. We are 9 points ahead at the moment, the bet was that pool finish within 8 points or less of us.

danniemcq also owes me €20 for a straight bet that pool would finish ahead of us.

In fairness Masch was only there a few months and Pardew didn't seem to want either of them at the time.
Diame as you say is nowhere near as good a player Mascherano.
Anaolgies can be used for lots of things like Real Madrid only sign good players yet they signed Julien Faubert.
I was merely using that along with what I've seen of him to say IMHO i'd prefer if Liverpool didn't sign him.
I get the impression some people think cos he's he's cheap which we know is not the case

Do you reckon there's anything in the stories? Skrtel just doesn't strike me as the type to agitate for a move. Plus he might be looking at being given the captaincy in a couple of years, if that means anything. He's had one very good season, many clubs would have ditched him a couple of years ago he was so error prone. I can't see him wanting out. Hopefully not anyway.

Warrior would have to pay Adidas compensation for the remaining two weeks or so that their contract runs for so that's unlikely we will be wearing the new one

Marveaux has a long history of injuries, Diame has been an ever present in the premiership for the 2009/2010 season, 2010/11 season and up to January of this season

I don't think there is anything to them but stuff like him being out today will no doubt add to speculation.

I don't want to see him go but if he did I think Agger/Coates would form a solid partnership.

Skrtel tweeted about how he would miss today's game due to surgery. He got a knock to the nose and it needed to be taken care of. Carragher standing in for him today (Carragher's 699th game for the club) is nowt out of the norm tbh.

I think some of the Skrtel (or Agger) out stories are coming from some of the scouting trips that Kenny/Clarke/others made in recent weeks where Yanga-Mbiwa and Ogbonna were meant to have been scouted.

The Yanga-Mbiwa rumours could just as easily have been the club scouting Belhanda as they play in the same team.

That was a comment about Newcastle paying big salaries to Bosman transfers rather than injuries.
I have a different opinion to you and a few others on Diame.
I can live with that. I don't think he's good enough as a back up player for Liverpool.
If he does end up signing only time will tell. I won't hold it against him if he's playing at Anfield when I'm there :)

I think also Skrtel has 2 years left on his contract come next month or July.
So his agent may be angling for his new deal to be sorted soon and for it to be a good one too given his age.
