Haven't seen anyone reliable say anything yet, but Txiki is the name doing the rounds on twitter.

    Jen Chang wrote:
However, the bigger question for Liverpool fans is whether there is really anybody who could do a better job under the present circumstances. Given the severe financial restraints in place, and the almost unrealistic expectations under which any Liverpool manager operates, it's hard to see any elite managers (i.e. Jose Mourinho) being interested. Which leaves the Liverpool owners with the choice of retaining Benitez, opting for a recycled "big name" or gambling with a lesser-known up-and-comer such as Roberto Martinez.
When examined in that light, you could argue that Liverpool might be best served giving Benitez one more season to see if he can get his house in order. For now, Benitez's virtues probably still outweigh his flaws, but the biggest question remains his willingness to change and adopt a more daring approach.

If Txiki is our new DOF and he wants Martinez or Rogers who whoever, then we should listen to him.

If were to go for the Barcelona style of things, then Martinez, Rogers or AVB wouldn't be bad candidates to implement that style of play.

Can't really imagine Rafa working under a DOF.

I've chatted to Chang before, great guy.

And if Txiki is in too, that's another great move.

I wonder are they trying to get Martinez to work as something like an assistant manager alongside, for arguments sake, rafa or even avb.

Avb is actually 4 years younger than martinez....hmmm

Yeah I'm ok with that. As long as some that knows what they're doing is calling the shots I'm happy.

I can't see Martinez wanting to be an assistant manager at this stage in his career, doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's not as if we are the top team in the league with an already successful manager ready to hand over the reins soon.

Paul Tomkins now saying that the policy of buying Premiership proven talent last summer was down to Comolli and Kenny only got to choose off his shortlist.

    Spread over a few tweets.

Kenny Dalglish is supposed to have refused compensation after being sacked, telling FSG to put the money towards transfers.

Strange this he took Celtic to court over compensation
And I believe kenny is a tight git

No, the Wigan job is bigger than the Liverpool assistant manager job. If Martinez goes to Liverpool it'll be as the manager.

I doubt Rafa would work with a DOF and I reckon Begiristain would chose Martinez ahead of the likes of Lambert and Rodgers because of his nationality and style. He'd probably fancy working with a fellow Spaniard and I'm sure he's been consulted as to who he'd like to see as manager, and Martinez has been approached.

The man knows his football. He was instrumental in the reshaping of Barcelona. He features in a really great BBC documentary which follows them in that first year he was appointed. It's on youtube I think.

I posted these earlier which will give you some idea the extent to which he was involved with decision making at Barca. Proper football man who knows the game.

If this news is true then it's stellar work from FSG!

    Fúck me.

Its been a weird few days!

Hope they drive forward and get a good manger to complament Txiki(sp?)

I must say I had very little knowledge of him up to now, but i've read great things about him today, which is good.

The more and more that comes out about Kenny, the more a Ledgend he seems.
He appears to have dealt with the sacking quite gracefully, and still loves the club it seems.

Still disappointed he's gone, but hopeful that we get a fitting replacement.

paid a shedload plus Etoo for Ibrahamovich when Etoo was already the better player

paid a shedload for a ukranian centre half that hardly played a game

    he'll fit right in:D

What I'm thinking is they are trying to build a kind of Barcelona system or even Porto. Or even old Liverpool for that matter.

    A system of successive managers.

This tweet was on April 16.

I really should have taken a Guardiola from the interwebz today. At least some serious question's look like getting addressed.

For anyone who doesnt know Chang you can read his facebook chat for the last year here, theres a fair bit of pool related stuff.

I don't think the owners place much emphasis on the old Liverpool and the last few days clearly indicate that.
