Specifically a park with pullup bars, dip bars, etc.

I emailed the council and they emailed back saying there was no funding in place and they will "however monitor the usage of such units on the Passage Walkway and at the Regional Park in Ballincollig over time to judge the demand for same."

It's a real shame that Cork has nothing like this (to my knowledge), it would be so beneficial for everyone.

What is involved in applying for permission to get one built? I'd love some info regarding money, etc.

great idea, I certainly think you could get a bit of support from people willing to contribute to the cost, I certainly would anyway.

Have no idea of whats involved in getting permission though

Do some research on Leader funding and thr like might be your best start. Insurance is a huge issue and would be a significant part of the costs.

Have a look here for funding sources: http://www.thegreenbook.ie/services_community/funding.html

    €13,500 roughly for I think 6 or 7 units

Photos of Primrose Hill Park, in the UK. Fairly popular place.

    Yeah, something like that.

It'd be beneficial for everyone if we could get something like this in or around the city!

Depends on where it's put surely. I think metallic beams would suffice and last a long time, given proper treatment. If you mean damage wise, that's a good question.

Ad in Irish Examiner today from Dept of Transport, Tourism and Sport seeking applications for funding for sports equipment/sports development.

The Examiner had it right - The good news is that there is funding available... Minister Michael Ring in the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport announced the new Sports Capital Programme yesterday. 6 weeks to get the applications in!
    http://www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie/
    http://www.transport.ie/pressRelease.aspx?Id=525

This seems to be a once in 4 year event... The last one of these was about 2008, and the next one seems to be due in 2016 according to this: http://www.kildarestreet.com/wrans/?id=2012-03-08.1222.0

Any club or community organisation seems to get a fair crack at it for amounts up to €25k, providing they stump up between 5 and 15% (depending on eligibility). Only 6 weeks to submit for it though.

Given that there is €30million available, and they are giving out small amounts also, there is no reason that there couldn't be pull-up bars and other equipment in most parks. Just need the applications in... Clubs, councils or whatever - just need to ask for it.

I have registered on the site. I really need help with this thing, what organisation should I ask to help me with it? I could go to some local committees in the Douglas area..

  • Registered Users Posts: 654 ✭✭✭Colibri

Right, we'd need 15% of the project cost in order to apply. Féck, where are we gonna get funding..

I would suggest making contact with any local Tidy Towns association, Active Retirement Association (yes - often the most active) and their "Go For Life" schemes http://ageandopportunity.ie/national-grant-scheme

Then National Sports Council bodies - anyone on this page: http://www.irishsportscouncil.ie/Participation/

Then any of the youth focussed places... they'd be good also... often they have access to different pools if they come up with a good idea...

You'd come up with the balance pretty quickly I'd think - particularly if there is more than 1 organisation involved and you can say that it has wider appeal or focus...

    Thanks Taxable. Fingers crossed!

...or even if you asked the council people who rejected the idea before on the grounds of funding... ...now you can point to this and ask if they'll help now... It doesn't seem to be the most difficult of processes... Good luck with it!!
