A tube of pringles is now €3.19 in tesco... this is absurdly high. Even €2 is too expensive.

but how can they fund the below cost bargains (and the expensive advertising to brainwash you into thinking they are the supermarket equivalent of mother theresa, gushing with compasion and generosity) if other stuff isnt dear?

I suppose! Still, surely they would make *more* money on that particular product if they lowered the price!

Its a bit bizarre though, If you look in the Bargain alerts section theres a whole thread on Bargains in Tesco.

When that bargain no longer exists it ends up in the Rip off thread.

Supermarkets adjust their prices all the time and its not unique to Ireland.

    Shop around !!

Keith I agree all supermarkets adjust prices but when products are more than doubled in price within a few days this is unfair in my opinion. The cake I am referring to is most certainly NOT worth €4.60 as it is small and my only guess is that this cake sold well so they increased the price to substitute for other offers in store. I know they are a business and need to make money but there pricing techniques are a joke.

I am lucky I have an Aldi and Lidl beside me but I still go to Tesco for wine/beer/branded soft drinks/special offers/ etc. but others are not so lucky and may just have a Tesco near them. I couldn't do a weekly shop in Tesco only as it is a total rip off for non special offer items and general basics.

No, their making more money by having a cheaper product elsewhere in the store and then the average joe buying it because their in Tesco already.

E.G. People buying below cost beer and then buying a load of munchies for a party along with it.

Its rare that someone would go into Tesco or another store for a particular product and then travel to another store to save a few euros on a different product in that shop.

You'd better get off down to SuperValu where they're €1.52 this week. Their full retail price is €3.08, which isn't much less than Tesco's. I assume that Dunnes is charging the same as Tesco, which is what they normally seem to do.

    I'm glad I hate crisps.

Pringles have gone completely out of my price range lately. I haven't bought them at full price for a long long time and always get them on special or buy Aldi own brand version for the €1.20 mark. €3.19 really is extortion for a tube of crisps.

Why are you basing the value of a product on its previous price ?
Loads of people do for some reason, and the marketing men know this, and take full advantage. You see lots of people conning themselves with bogus savings calculations, esp. when they go up north.

These 'brand loyal' people mean my grocery bills are low as they subsidise my bargains with their poor value choices. I love how tesco has changed over the years, I see loads of great bargains these days.

2.99 in superquinn. You should keep an eye on bargain alerts, I bet they will be on offer in tesco in the next 2 months.

No brainer, Pringles are an Item always on special and on a promo end in one of the big supermarkets, most supermarkets really have the same offers from multinationals like PG. Unilever, Kelloggs, Nestle year in year out in a cycle throughout the year with the odd seasonal lines like Robinsons Squashes and Mi Wadi thrown in.

Thing is I wouldn't often eat pringles because I know they're more expensive than other crisps, but the last time I remember buying them they were €1.24 on offer, which is obviously quite cheap but it's all they're worth in my opinion!

vote with your feet. If the prices go up, don't buy the items there, they will eventually loose money and reverse the price hikes. Mind you, there will certainly be some large yellow stickers screaming "CHEAPER, was xxx, now xxx" to make it look like you are getting a bargain.

I noticed the increase too, did a super shop online at Superquinn instead which had loads of good offers, raided the "reduced to clear" shelves at Tesco and Dunnes and bought the rest at Aldi. Tesco can stick their higher prices up their derrière

Well now as per my earlier post I checked the price of the Barry's Tea in Dunnes today and whaddya know??? Still €6.29 in Dunnes - with 10% extra versus €6.69 in Tesco. So I left a nice message for Barry's on their Facebook page which will also flag up on Tesco's and Dunnes pages cos I mentioned them as well. Now off for more tea - from Dunnes :)

Pringles have changed their tube size for the bigger supermarkets. they are now a 190g as apposed to the 165g that would have retailed in or around €2.49 (ie half price being €1.24) The increased pack size along with the vat increse (that tesco said it wasnt passing on) along with a price increase from the supplier has led to the new full price of €3.08 in supervalu or €3.19 in tescos

  • Registered Users Posts: 867 ✭✭✭Nanazolie

a few increases I've noticed yesterday:

Oral B dental floss from 2.83 to 3.05. Will now buy it in Boots at 2.99
St Dalfour jams from 2.44 to 2.55. Still cheaper in Dunnes
6 medium free range eggs from 1.69 to 1.85. Still cheaper in Lidl
Value cherry tomatoes from 89 cents to 94 cents. All cherry tomatoes have gone up
Organix rice cakes: from 99cents to 1.05. Still the cheapest, though
croissant from 50 cents to 60 cents

Leaving Pringles out in the cold will be no great loss.
Proctor and Gamble who make pringles love to test their products on animals still.
Why do some supermarket chains contine to push the club/loyalty cards.
    What a waste of money.
while the other supermarkets who dont waste this money on all the advertising fanfare that comes with the cards,
can use this money to keeping lower prices instead.
Shop with your feet and wallet.I have no loyalties to any brand or supermarket chain.

I am horrified at Tesco's spirialling rip-off prices.

Lots of their wheat free range - specialist food for coeliacs - have risen in price. And I notice dental tape has gone up too.

Love to see ASDA/Sainsbury's/Waitrose or any UK or German chain enter the market here in competition with Tesco - famous for high prices and low standards.

The problem is that it's hard to compare prices when only 3 supermarkets have online shops: Tesco, Superquinn and Supervalu. Plus unless you live in a very urban area, you most often have access to only one or two, and driving long distances between shops is a no-no

I have all the stores within walking / cycling distance, and I do my shopping according to geographic location: if I am in town, I'll do a bit of shopping in Aldi at lunch time, etc... Might not work for everyone so some people are stuck with Tesco or Dunnes.

And when Tesco rise their prices, others are quick to follow suit

Hikes across the board in multiple departments today including frozen goods.

They are clearly implementing a price increase on a phased basis.

They are playing a 'price leadership' game where they hope that other supermarkets will follow.

    Anyway, walk with your feet.

    :pac:

...I always thought that SuperValu got in first with the price increases, which seems to happen two or three times a year. I've never noticed a particular time for Dunnes doing the same. We're getting skinned alive.:(

i am unlucky enough that tesco is the closest supermarket to me and iv no car:(

i am constantly noticing thise price hikes and its very annoying

I did my shopping last night, and noticed the cat litter that was 2.85 last week is now 3.15

In the last month my butter / oj / cereal / eggs / toilet roll / cheese have all gone up

    :o

eggs have all gone up due to the new EU law that battery eggs are no longer permitted. Not a bad thing IMO. However, free range eggs have also gone up. Tesco's free range eggs are cheaper by the hald dozen than by the dozen. Eggs still much cheaper at Dunnes, Aldi and Lidl
