...which doesn't really have anything to do with the point I was making regarding the number of foreign born nationals going down in future years due to the economic situation, something which would affect both legal and illegal residents of the country. Nor is it particularly relevant given that - as pointed out earlier - the vast majority of those foreign born are EU nationals.

and those figs in all probability do not even tell half the story.
there are possibly 10s of 1,000s who are undocumented, and who will never appear on official stats.

Not so sure about that.

My Dad was greeted by "No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish" signs in the 50s'.
When I was in London during the troubles, I witnessed the release of the B'ham 6, and was called "another murderin oirish basta'd".

But thankfully things have changed for the better, and i take your point we have a very close relationship/affinity with our UK friends.

In fairness what has been sold in the past to the Aboriginal people as assimilation was in fact genocide.
Their lands were forcibly removed, they were killed in large numbers for resisting this, children taken and "civilised". All this by those they are now understandably resisting assimilation with.
So nobody can blame Mick Dodson for wanting to hold on to the remaining fragments of their traditions and culture.

I don't think we can compare that to liberally allowing economic migrants seek a better life in the parts of the world (ie. here) who's prosperity depends on the poverty of their own countries.
