    Well fellow boardsies,

Heading to melbourne for the long weekend any suggestions on the top 5 things you have to do while there.

I am going to see collingwood in the mcg on the saturday so what else is a must to do there.

    Thanks a million.

    NGV
St Kilda: closest thing to a beach near the city in these parts (if you go to the end of the pier, behind the kiosk, before dusk you can see the penguins coming in over the breakwater. No charge.
    Old Melbourne Gaol
Checking the different bars and eateries in the hidden laneways in the city
City Circle tram, loud as hell but gives you a good overview of the CBD and free

    Brighton Beach
Red Bluff at Sandringham (an unknown gem)
Botanical Gardens. Nice views of Melbourne from along the river and on top of the Shrine of Rememberence
Usually there's something going on at Fed Sq, usually a festival on a Sunday.
Fitzroy St, Sydney Road, Chapel St, Clarendon St, Brunswick St, Acland St, Southbank and Richmond are good areas for bars, cafes and restaurant. I've a soft spot for Balaclava Road, not for bars but nice spot for cafes and good buzz.
